Thank you for that info. I have the birth/Wedding info from Ancestry. but cannot find any info on his work,or directory of family prior to his emigration 1820.Was hoping to find someone connected to family that may know more. :-)

Does anyone have any info on the above Born Plymouth devon 1795.Emigrated to Baltimore USA around 1820 on brig Willem Van Ersten from Guernsey. Died Castine MA in 1840.Looking for any early info prior to immigration. Believe he was a Ropemaker.

Hi . I have both A1 books. My family-Stewarts were one of the first owners. My Grandfather, Brothers William ,James and Jonathan and some cousins were the initial owners. as time went on those who married in -IE Dunn, William Sheild, Baillie and some other were able to get shares and have their own buses throughout the 'threetowns' -[ Saltcoats ,Stevenston and Ardrossan.] My Father Jack Stewart. was one of the final holdouts when Stagecoach bought the company. His garage was in Factory Lane Saltcoats, he and Brother George had 2 garages there. One across from McGregor owner of Clyde Coast. Growing up I had first hand info. In fact our doorbell was a 'push once' from one of the buses:-)

When William John Shields married Letitia Dunn  in 1924. No Father listed on Mge. Rec. because he was the illegitimate son of Jane Sheils who died Limavady Workhouse 1888. WJS added the ‘D’ to his name himself to change the spelling.
WJS arrived in Rankinston Ayrshire looking for his Cousin Alexander McLean married to his Mother’s sister Rebecca Sheils. He bought Scenery Cottage in Rankinston for his cousin and his family. . . . all before he met and married Letitia. We have photos of both cousins and they could almost be twins.
Alexander & Rebecca named their 8th. child William Shields McLean in his honour.
William and Letitia had 2 children William 1925 - 1999. Letitia 1927 - 2021 .
I am related to the Maureen you speak of and glad to say she is well and happy.
I will pass your message on to her.
We are fairly certain that we have traced the father of WJS. But nothing in this life is ever  100%
WJS continues to be a man of mystery with almost 40 years of his life missing.
But arrived in Rankinston with sufficient funds to buy property.
I have been in Scenery Cottage and seen the deeds . . . .so,an interesting man.
Looking forward to Scotland’s 1921c later this year.

Thanks for your info Val. I have disclaimed my first thoughts on parents of John and have corrected it on my Ancestry page. I review my facts often and if I have found errors I change to what I have the correct records and documents to back it up. My earlier bungling around in 2012 was still a work in progress. Not been doing much recently. Unless an enquiry pops up and sends me back down the rabbit hole :-). Hope you are well?

William emigrated to Nova Scotia 1831 and remained there He married Isabella Baxter-there in 1837. So do not believe the same person. Thanks anyway. But perhaps this is an indication we have been searching in the wrong wheelcab.. There is no documentation re birth whereabouts and appears everyone in family presumed it true. I hate when people happily go on and click yes when there is no proof.🤨 So back to the drawing board. Thanks folks.

Stan ,thank you so much for that info. We now have an area to look at and hopefully answers to our question. I will confer with our other researcher and hopefully can figure this out. I think it more likely Shildon is the place we need to look into.

Looking for this Sheldon Hale or something the sounds like this in Durham around 1815.
My Husband had an ancestor -William James Taylor supposedly born there in 1815. We do not know parents names. He emigrated to Nova Scotia Canada 1831.Was known there a Captain William James Taylor and long life as a mariner in area,.He married an Isabella Baxter, born in Lincoln. England,- we have her info but he is not easy to find.She moved to Ontario area earlier than him with her family. and married William in Ontario .Ca.
Family insist he was born in this' Sheldon Hale' but I cannot find it.. Can someone help? Thanks.
