I believe that 99 Newtown Road was the address of the Newbury Union Workhouse.

93 people buried in the Newtown Road Cemetery had the address of 99 Newtown Road.

Hi
This is for newburychap

A picture of the greyhound pub in Newbury taken by my uncle Tony Cuddy (1940-1981)
it is a little worse for wear after being in a suitcase with the family collection for many years, but someone may be able to clean it up.

Hi
I know nothing about the place except that my g grandmother Mabel CARTER (1883-1974) lived there at the time of her marriage and presumably her parents too (Alfred and Elizabeth CARTER). I still need to check on the parents.

I thought I would say who my family were in case we were looking at the same people.

Wonderful!
I had no idea that any evidence of it would still exist. I will be down there at the weekend with the camera.

Many thanks for your assistance.

Does anyone know where Dothan Place in Newbury was located.
My G Grandmother lived there before she was married (it is her address on the Marraige certificate) but i have never heard of it.

I'd be grateful if any one could shed light on it please.

Thanks very much

There is an article on the St. Joseph's Church web site about the church's golden Jubilee in 1978.
The piece contains a snippet about the creation of the school at 105 London Road, which is now the presbetery for the Church.
Article: http://www.stjosephsnewbury.org.uk/ (scroll down the page to find the link to the article.)
Map: http://www.bing.com/maps/default.aspx?v=2&cp=sk0y53gwq3z8&scene=17151271&lvl=2&sty=b
105 London Road is second from the Central left attached to the chruch hall.

Hope that Helps

Berkshire / Re: Dredges Yard Newbury
« on: Monday 25 January 10 18:33 GMT (UK)  »
Hi Spec,
The family I have is the STROUDs. They were definitely in Dredges Yard, Bartholomew Street in 1851, as they appear on the census index and were still there in 1856 as it appears on a birth certificate
There are no GUNTERs living in Newbury town centre at that time (1851), However there are about 26 living in and around Aldermaston. (comes under district of Bradfield). Census info: H0107/1691 folios 230 - 248.
There is no Richard listed there, but there is a Thomas, aged 8.
Not sure if that meets your date criteria.

Hi
I am also looking for a family who lived Dredge's Yard, Newbury, but the family name was not Gunter.
However, in my research I noticed the 1851 Census index says that there are TWO Dredge's Yards.

One is in Northbrook St. as previously mentioned, but there is another in Bartholomew St.
Not quite sure of its location, but will let you knwo when I find it.
