Hi Terry
Yes, I would think they did.
The family lived 'on the hill' from the late 1830's to the mid 1920's.
Some of them spent a lot of time in the pub next door to their house,  'The Scotchman and His Pack' strange name for a pub!

Hi
your ancestor and my 2 X great grandfather would no doubt have known each other. My ancestors lived in number 22 St Michaels Hill and later moved to number 60.
Not sure if you are a member of facebook, but there are a few groups that may be of interest to you.
Bristol then and now photographs, Bristol past and present and Bygone Bristol, to name a few.
Good luck with your search

Thank you again :)

Yes I think you are correct that is Mary.

I have not come across these records before, a little research for me this evening.

Thank you both for your messages, it was very kind of you to find the information.

I am trying to work out the name of the dwelling place on the civil records? I assume its somewhere close to Scarriff?

My next bit of detective work is to try and find the marriage of John Ryan and Mary Shaughnessy. So far i have not been able to find it or where they originate from.

thank you again

Sarah :)

Hi Stephen

I guess that makes us cousins ( a few times removed)  :)

My Grandmother was Amelia's younger sister Ellen.
I will send you a personal message regarding William and what I have found out recently

Dear All
I have posted on here before, (although a few years back) and the help I was given was brilliant  :)
I am hoping that someone may be able to help me again please.
In October I am planning to visit Scarriff and if I am really lucky find more information on my Great Grandfather William John Ryan.
All I know is his name and that he was born C1867 in Scarriff. His fathers name was John (who was a laborer)
That information came from Williams marriage record - He married in 1890 on Jersey. His year and place of birth came from his army records and the 1911 census when he was living in Southampton.

I have no idea what his mothers name / maiden name was or if he had any brothers and sisters.

Are there any places that anyone can recommend to visit to find out more?

Thank you in advance for your help  :)

Sarah
