Handwriting Deciphering & Recognition / Re: A.F.O. on details relating to a death
« on: Thursday 18 February 10 17:44 GMT (UK)  »
Dear Ermy,
Thanks so much regarding the info relating to William Halewood. I think I digressed somewhat as I had'nt thought the William Halewood I was looking for was a child, but from your info I believe he is the child of William Halewood senior.
I was trying to find the death of senior WH. He married my husbands grandmother Sarah Isaac in 1898, he was 21, however she married again in 1907 as a widow so he must have died between the marriages in 1898 and 1907 when Sarah was free to marry again, but I have'nt been able to trace the date of his death. Being a mariner I thought he may have died at sea but don't know how you find out this. It is obvious from your response that they had a child which I did'nt know about, so thanks once again very much for sharing this with me, it is much appreciated. Regards whinery.

When looking up the death of an ancestor from the index references, by the name of the deceased are the following initials, A.F.O. Does anyone know what these stand for? The person concerned was a mariner so could be something connected with that but not sure. Can anyone help?

Does anyone have any information relating to a William Leslie Burton, born in 1909.
He married Eleanor Ethel Whinery in 1931 and they had a son the same year in Liverpool and he left two years later.
Could have remarried but don't know whether he is still alive or deceased, as would be 101!

Hi Johngirl,
Many thanks for your reply, it was wonderful to hear from you with all your information and to know that despite all the miles between us here in the UK and you in Tasmania we may have a common link.
Still not too sure of finding my way round this site but so far we seem to have received each others messages. I am not too much of a computer buff and have'nt found it too easy to navigate my way around this website as of yet. No doubt everyone reading this will be laughing to themselves and wondering what planet I am on!
I don't wish to be a kill joy but I am not convinced thoroughly that we are the right track with our family searches, although there are too many names that do match in some areas that I feel there is a connection. My husband John is 78 and his parents were Eleanor Ethel Burton and William Leslie Burton, hence his name John Leslie Whinery Burton. Eleanor Ethel was the daughter of Sarah Isaac who we believe married three times. Sarahs parents are listed as Albert Isaac born in 1842 in Badminton, Gloucester and who was a Joiner and Mary Allen born in Ireland. They were married in Liverpool in 1869. In the 1891 Census they are shown as living in Arthur Street in Liverpool with a son Herbert 16, daughter Rhoda 14 and Ruth 9. Sarah would have been 12 but she had been given a middle name of Ann on her birth certificate. In the 1901 census Rhoda, Sarah's sister is shown as being married with a son age 4 Herbert A Greaves which is the gentleman who we think emigrates to Tasmania, hence the link. Is this fitting into place with you or not? There seems to be alot of details which match however had'nt come across the name George Alfred Isaac at all.

hi,
first visit as new member so not sure of way round the site yet, it takes quite abit of getting used to!  Have noted from past replies that Herbert Greaves was your Great Aunts son and that you had correspondance regarding Otho Desse Greaves. I have been tracing my husbands family history, he was brought up by his grandmother born Sarah Isaac who was the younger sister of Rhoda A Isaac who went on to marry Otho and their son was Herbert A Greaves born in 1897. I believe he possibly went on to marry Helena  McCann in 1923.
Does this ring any bells with you? We have had so little information to go on but I did see you had corresponded with Rhonda on the Liverpool Forum and this is where the Tasmania connection comes in.
