Antrim / McKeever
« on: Friday 26 February 10 11:25 GMT (UK)  »
My g.g.g. grandfather was Bernard McKeever / McIvor (born abt 1812), I have found a church marriage record for him to Mary McLernan (born abt 1812) in Nov 1834 in (Magheralane) Randalstown, Co. Antrium.  Unfortunately no parents or witnesses were listed for either.  I know they had a son Arthur Ignatius born abt 1836 in Ireland and they moved to South Shields, Tyneside between 1836 and 1842, where they had a number of other children one of them being John my g.g. grandfather.  Bernard died about 1887 in South Shields.

Has anyone got any history on either of them from before 1834 or can help point me in the right direction.

Thanks
Elaine

Got the marriage certificate through today at long last.  Bernard is listed as John's father.  Just need to now track his brothers/sisters, etc.

Thanks for your help.

Ordered marriage cert so will be able to do more when that arrives.

I had come across Bernard McIvor but I dont think he is related as he is from Ireland but I could be wrong will see when cert arrives, mind you he does have sons called Arthur and Henry and these have been used mainly as middle names in our family and so far not come across them anywhere else.  We have always been told that John McIvor (now thinking his dad) originally came from Harris/Lewis only thing is there are rather a lot of them so need to get parent names to narrow it down.

The arrest record sounds interesting too, I had heard he was very fond of a drink, so you never know, again will look further when marriage cert arrives.

Thanks for that, never came across the Nancy/Anne thing before but have heard of a Nan being a version for both.

The John Mcevar sounds interesting will look into that too.

Thanks.

Defo the right person then as I have already got that information and more, just trying to get a bit further back.  Thanks once again.  Do you know why Nancy would become Anne?   I have traced her family back too and the only mention of Nancy is the 1881 census and the info you gave me for marriage - she is listed as Ann/e in earlier census for the Collier family?

Thanks for that.  Sounds like the right person - Henry P is my g.grandfather.  Looks like I am going to have to order a copy of their certificate.

Durham / John McIvor

I am trying to trace John McIvor (my g.g.grandfather) born about 1843, died between 1905 and 1920 and according to the 1881 census (this is the first record found of him) was born in Durham, South Shields (we had understood he came from Harris / Lewis) so this was a surprise.  I can find no birth, marriage or death certificate for him in either Scotland or England.  He was married to Annie Collier who came from Cloughton, Scarborough (listed as Nancy in 1881 census) and she died in Glasgow in 1929 after moving there from West Derby, Lancs.  He had 3 children - 2 boys and 1 girl.  He was a musician (flautist) and possibly a teacher (head?) and possibly has the middle name of Henry.

There are lots of John McIvors from around the same birth year in Lewis/Harris but as I dont know his parents names or siblings, I dont know if I have the right one.

If anyone has come across him, please let me know.

Hi

Just started looking into my family tree and came across your post from 2006 - hope you are still here.

I think Annie Collier (daughter of Hannah and Christopher) is my great great grandmother.   I am actually trying to trace Annie's husband John McIvor (South Shields? / Stornoway?), if you have any information I would love to hear from you or if you want any information on this part of the family let me know.
