Karen,

My Great-Great Grandmother was a Agnes Hoggan (farm servant) who had an illegitemate daughter Agnes McFarlane Hoggan (born 25th Decenber 1896 (registered in 1897 births) - Underwood, Parish of Falkirk).  The father was not given on the birth certificate.

Agnes Hoggan McFarlane (her father noted as James McFarlane, ploughman, deceased on the Marriage cert), married John Hagen on 10th November 1916.

I can't go back any further than Agnes and James as they did not get married.

Is this Agnes a relation of you and if so do you know any more?

John Laird

Yes I am. My wife's Great Great Grandfather was a John Beetles who lived in Kirkwall, Orkney in 1870. Do you have any information about the Beetles in Orkney?

An Esther Hagen was a witness to the marriage of my Great Grandfather John Hagen (Clayminer) to Agnes Hoggan McFarlane in 1916.  Are they brother and sister?

I am trying to trace my descendants.  My great grandfather was Johnny Hagen who worked in Griffith's Brickwork in Bonnybridge.  See http://myweb.tiscali.co.uk/stjosephsbonnybridge/Little%20history%20store/heavy_industry.htm.  My father John Hagen Laird also worked in Dyson brickworks before becoming a bricklayer.
