Norfolk / Re: Parents of Stephen HERNE & John HERNE christened at Alby
« on: Friday 11 March 22 09:03 GMT (UK)  »
Thanks for your information. The places you mentioned - Salthouse, Holt & Thurgaton are all in the region of Norfolk where most of my ancestors, up to the early 1800's, had lived for nearly 200 years. I found that Elizabeth Caythorp was born 1735 at Gunthorpe, another place of interest that had lot's of Hurns/Hernes residing there. Will add your info' to my further research. Thanks again.

I am trying to find out more details concerning Stephen and Elizabeth Herne, the parents of Stephen Herne, christened at Alby 24 April 1776 and John and Elizabeth Herne, the parents of John Herne, christened at Alby 4 February 1786. I can't find any records or details of the marriages of these couples.

On the 1840 marriage certificate Charlotte’s age is shown as “of age” which one assumes means she was 21 or over hence born circa 1819.

Sorry for my error - a “seniors moment”! Yes that is her ok on both the 1851 and 1861 census. Thanks for providing all the info especially that there was a mass baptism. Whilst that is of interest, her actual date of birth still isn’t known. If it wasn’t recorded at the time of the baptism then I have no idea if it was ever recorded.

Thanks for your reply Trish. Unfortunately this is not her. Charlotte was married in 1840 to a William Stevens. On the 1871 census her place of birth was recorded as Colchester, Essex.

We do appear to have a family connection. The parents of my Joseph (1793) were James Stevens (13 Oct 1763 Bledlow) and Sussana. His parents were James (10 Sep 1732 Bledlow) and Mary. James parents were Edward and Elizabeth who, I believe to be the parents of your John 1733. James and John are brothers. Edward is the 8 x great grandfather of my wife.
Still looking for marriages which don't appear to be in the Bledlow records.

Thanks bucksboy (Steve) for all the information you have provided which has proven to be invaluable. Certainly has filled in a lot of gaps going backwards in the family line. Going forward is so much easier.
Mike  :)
