I'd ask the GRO to check the cert for known details before parting with your cash, it costs £3 for a reference check which is included in the £7 fee if the details are correct

Barbara

Many thanks for the tip, Barbara.  Do I just phone them and ask what details are on the cert - never done that before

Hi Barbara

Many thanks for your help.  Yet another name for this family!!!!  Braun/Bryan/Braun/Bennie - I wonder where the bennie name came from, but could have been a transcription error.

I have been trying to find a record of John Braun's death but so far have not had any luch.  I do believe that there may have been an epidemic going around and it has been suggested that he went back to Switzerland and died there.

At least I have something else to go on.  I have been unable to use the 1851 Census on FindMyPast (1837 Online) as it is not available at present.

Once again, many thanks

Hi All

I am having a spot of bothere with the 1851 census, so looking for some help PLZ.  Here goes

Looking for MARY BRAUN formerly (KEMP), born abt 1818, poss Pembrokeshire.

Address I have is 21 Colchester Street, St. Olave.

Children I have are:
William Bn. Southwark 1837
Emily Eliza Bn Liverpool 1840
Mary Ann Bn Liverpool 1844
Miriam Frances Bn Mile End, London, 1848
Harriett Bn Stepney 1850

She seems to have been living with a Jonaton Budgeon and his children at the time of the census and married said Jonathon in 1858.

Her first husband was John James Braun and their name was registered as Bryan on the 1841 Census for West Derby, Liverpool and he 'seems' to have died or disappeared sometime between the 1841-51 Census

I know it's a long shot, but would really appreciate some help.

Many thanks

Hi Ken - seems you're familiar with the local geography - hope you find the right one!

Hi MSH

Well, not all THAT familiar with the area, though I was born in Tottenham but was adopted from there at an early age during the war

Of course, there is always the possibility that there is someone who has detail of Harry Edwards, b. 1898, Tottenham, who's parents wer Harry Braun Edwards and Annie Edwards, formerly Pardoe.

You never know

Ken - you could try the current office that covers Edmonton & apply there for the certificate on the basis "only if the parents are names" - many local offices will only charge you if the details match.

I've just checked the GENUKI pages and unfortunately they state "Edmonton Closed in 1965 and post July 1837 civil registers moved to Enfield or Haringey", so there's two local offices to try
http://www.genuki.org.uk/big/eng/RegOffice/
has links to the addresses

Hi MSH  As they were born in Tottenham, they could well come under Harringay.  I have had dealings with them before for info in Tottenham

Many thanks
