My name is Peggy Powell of Ft. Lauderdale FL. I was intrigued by the familiar names we share in the family genealogy.  I have a Marianne Elizabeth (nee) Hodgson Shakespear in my line, Lady Augusta Low of Clatto, Scotland and the famous Campbell family of The Indian Army as well as the Thackerays.

A Henry Archibald Irvine was the executor of Marianne Shakespear's will in 1887. Do you know if he might be a connection of Lt. Col. Archibald Irvine? Archibald Irvine was mentioned in my ancestor's (William Brumell) will. William served in India with Archibald Irvine, Sir John Low -  Augusta Low's father and the Campbells.

Thank you.

Am interested to learn more about the Clavering family in Northumberland. I have a 3xgreat-grandfather, William Brumell who was a Hostman working in conjuction with Sir ? Clavering...I know he was a titled gentleman and was either in partnership with my g-g-g grandfather or owned the land where the coal mines were located. Would be interested to know more about the business connection. Sorry I can offer any genealogical information.

Warwickshire / Re: Edgbaston Marriage Lookup - Hodgson

Hello again Tim...Joseph Hodgson was the founder of the Birmingham Eye Hospital. His father, I believe, is William Hodgson, merchant of Penrith, Cumberland. Apparently, the Hodgson family had settled on a small estate called 'Woodhead' near Penrith. Joseph Hodgson's mother was a Miss Rowlinson of Kendal. What is interesting to note is that Joseph married Mary Ann Moreton but I found by some means that her full name is Mary Ann Moreton LEDSAM -a very prestigeous family from eons ago as far back as the 13th century. Mary Ann's father was Joseph Frederick Ledsam Esq of Chad Hill. Check out Burke's Genealogical and Heraldic History under Ledsam of Chad Hill. I hope I'm not sending you in circles - I've no records, just following my research instincts and deductive reasoning!  Joseph was educated at King Edward VI's school, Birmingham and commenced his professional training as a pupil of George Freer of the same town. He afterwards pursued his studies in London at St. Bartholomew's Hospital. Joseph Hodgson is buried in Highgate Cemetery, London.  As members of RootsChat can I send you my e-mail address on this space? Can't remember the rules. What city do you live in? My sister and family reside in Adelaide.
Regards
Peggy

Hi Tim, My first time using  rootschat so didn't find any other way to contact you. My name is Peggy Powell and I live in Ft. Lauderdale Florida. My ancestor, William Brumell, married Joseph Hodgson's daughter, Marianne. I copied Joseph Hodgson's will in which he mentions leaving money for his brother's children. His brother was Henry Hodgson. The children mentioned are Emily Hodgson, Rev John Hodgson, George and Charles (whom Joseph believed went to Australia). The will indicates that George and Charles were to be given 3,000 pounds each "to be paid to each within two years after the dealth of my wife". I have a whole list of Staffordshire Hodgsons some where amongst the genealogy debris. If this information is of any interest to you, let me know. Post a reply - don't really know how you can respond to this message.
