His parents were James and Ann they were in Thirsk in 1861 with their younger children, but the older children Henry (1846), Christopher (1848) and Joseph (1850) were not with them. Henry and Christopher I have found in service around the county, but no sign of Joseph.
I have info on Joseph from 1869 onwards, he joined the Army and was stationed all over the empire.

I cannot find on Ancestry the following relative on the 1861 Census;

Joseph Routh born April 1850 in Thirsk, North Yorks. His family seem to be in the Thirsk/Ripon area but he is not with them. If anyone out there has access to another website other than Ancestry could you please have a look for him.

Thank you

Hi Wendi

Joseph was stationed in England from late 1882 to early 1884, I guess his wife would have travelled with him so Edith could have been born in England. Joseph had family in Leeds, but I would have thought that his wife would be in quarters near him down south.

 :)

Well Annie,

The parents were Joseph and Kate Routh, he was a sargeant in the Manchester Regiment, they married in 1882 in Amritsar. They had 4 children whilst he was in the army; Edith 1883, Rose 1884, Joseph 1887 and Annie 1889, followed by 4 more known children after he left the army in 1892.

Happy holidays,

Census Lookup and Resource Requests / Help! I can't find........
« on: Thursday 21 December 06 21:00 GMT (UK)  »
I have searched under every name combination but I cannot find my Yorkshire ancestors on the 1861 census on Ancestry.com.

The family consisted of;
James Routh born 1815, Ripon
Ann Routh born abt 1822, Langton on Swale
Joseph Routh born 1850, Exelby/Sutton
Thomas Routh born 1852 Balk
William Routh born 1856 Sutton
John Routh born 1859 Sutton

They had another son in late 1861 born in Sutton, near Thrisk, North Yorks......so in theory they should be living near Sutton at the time of the census. But I can't find them anywhere in England!

Anybody any suggestions where to look??

Thank you.

I have recently obtained the army records for my Gt Gt grandfather, and on it are the birth dates of his children born whilst he was in the army. One of the children is new to me, she was born whilst he was stationed in England but I cannot find her after that. I assume she went back to India when her parents returned with the regiment in Jan 1884.
Her name was Edith Mary Routh born 3rd March 1883. I would be grateful if anyone visiting the FRO can have a look in the overseas death records, as I assume she died in India.

Thank you

I know it's been a while but have you made any more progress with your Routh's?
My Joseph's father was a James Routh born in Ripon in 1815. Joseph had 6 brothers.
