That's fabulous! Thanks so much for the information!

I was not feeling hopeful of finding her with such a common name.

Thanks again

Hi Shirl

Thanks for all that information. You've certainly narrowed down the options for me.

I'll chase the Williams in the later censuses and see if I can exclude anyone.

He is proving extremely difficult to track down

Glamorganshire Completed Lookups / Birth/Baptism Lookup - WILLIAMS, Annie
« on: Sunday 10 March 13 10:57 GMT (UK)  »
Hi

I'm looking for a birth or baptism record for an Annie Williams b.c. 1865. The 1891 and 1901 census records her place of birth as Bryncock, Glamorganshire. On her marriage certificate her father is recorded as Edward Williams (occ. Sawyer). I don't know her mother's name.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Cornwall / Birth/Baptism Look-up - THOMAS, William James (Drake)
« on: Sunday 10 March 13 07:35 GMT (UK)  »
Hi,

I'm looking for a birth/baptism record for a William James (Drake) Thomas. I have a date of birth for him of 24th February 1858 and I believe he was born in Cornwall. The middle name Drake appears in some records, but not in others.

I know that William emigrated to Australia in 1878 at the age of 20. I do not know the names of his parents as they are not recorded on his marriage or death certificates.

I've had absolutely no luck so far finding any trace of him in England, particularly as he may have been recorded merely as a William Thomas.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Hampshire & IOW Lookup Requests / Re: THOMPSON Birth lookup IoW
« on: Monday 28 January 13 01:10 GMT (UK)  »
Hi

Her parents' names and father's occupation come from her death certificate - Emma died in 1921 in Western Australia, aged 86. We know she arrived in South Australia sometime between 1854-1855 and married shortly after. She supposedly travelled to Australia wth an aunt, whose name I've never been able to discover, so it's possibly that both her parent's might have passed away when she was young.

Her death certificate says that she was born in London, but I've never been able to find a birth record, a marriage record for her parents or the family on any census records in the London area. The location of Ventnor comes from research done by some distant relatives, but I've no idea how they got that information.

Finding Emma and her parents has been very difficult.

Thanks for your help.

Hi,

I'm looking for a birth record for an Emma Thompson/Thomson born c.1835 possibly in Ventnor, Isle of Wight. Her parents were Joseph Thompson/Thomson (possibly working as a Bookbinder) and Charlotte Tyler.

Any information about Emma, her parents marriage, or the names of any other siblings would be greatly appreciated.

Australia / Re: David Jones - Shipbuilder WA

Hi Rhonda

Thanks for that info. I've sent off for the certificate. It's the only David Jones that fits the time, but the age is a bit younger than we would have expected. On his marriage certificate 11 years previously he was recorded as 28, but I guess we won't know for sure until we get the certificate.

Thanks

Other Countries / Mauritius - David Jones
« on: Sunday 19 August 12 11:56 BST (UK)  »
Hi

I'm looking for some information on a David Jones (bc1813-1823 Aberystwyth, Wales - d1856 Perth, Western Australia) who was a shipbuilder in Western Australia between 1842 and 1856.

From sources we've found, we believe that David Jones was a shipbuilder/shipwright/carpenter for the Royal Navy. He was apparently discharged from the Navy at Mauritius where upon he waited for passage to the Swan River colony.

David Jones arrived in Western Australia in 1842 (possibly on the "Simon Taylor").

Any information about David Jones while he was in Mauritius or information about British Naval personnel in Mauritius would be greatly appreciated.

Regards,
