Hi Shelagh

The Manchester 1851 census was water damaged, but a great deal has been recovered by M&SFHS
This is a possibility.

Hi Shelagh,
I was idly looking for Francis Cooper's birth (not successfully) when I found your posts.
He was a farmer in Ripley and married Jane Skaife in Ripon in 1816. That's all I know about him. Jane was baptised in 1794 to Robert and Mary at Hampsthwaite near Harrogate. There is a reasonably well-authenticated line of Skaifes in the area going back as far as 1691 (all in the IGI).
My interest is in Thomas Cooper - I still don't know when he died - and his  daughters Ann Eliza and Hannah Skaife. The former married my G Grandfather and lived in Glasgow. Her sister took her place when she died.
Hope this is useful if you don't already know it.
Stephen

Hi Stephen,

sorry I didn't spot your reply earlier.

I  am descended from Thomas Cooper and Ann Tomlinson via their daughter Mary Ellen Cooper.

She  moved to glasgow after her first husband died (1883) and  I always wondered why. but  presumably  she moved there because her only family was her sisters and they were there.

Since my original post here I have quite a bit about Thomas and also the Skaife's which I will dig out for you and send in a few days

I'll be in touch

I am hoping to visit this churchyard looking for ancestors and wonder if anyone knows if there are graves there from the 18th century 1750's and 1780's in particular.

If anyone is very close and able to have a look I can let you know the names I'm looking for, but am quite prepared to come up and look if I think there are old gravestones still standing there.

Regards

Many thanks for looking, maybe not the one I'm looking.  All information is helpful and you never know it might be him. I'll see if any more clues turn up.

Sorry I wasn't around to respond earlier.

Francis must have been somewhere else on census night as Jane is given as Head, very odd if he can't be found..

I spotted a Francis Cooper in Yorkshire b 1800, is he married? and is his wife with him? if so he's not the one I'm looking for.

Thanks for the info you have posted.

Yorkshire (West Riding) Lookup Requests / 1851 census look up please

I'm looking for Francis Cooper born about 1800.

I thought he was in Lancashire with his family but he may be in Yorkshire as he was married in Ripon and possibly born there.
On the 1841 census he is in Cheetham, Manchester aged 40 and Not born in County

I notice on Ancestry there is one born 1800 in Yorkshire, would someone kindly let me know the details.

Thanks

Shelagh

Hi Jenny,

I will probably be visitng Sedbergh in a few weeks time and will check in the local History Society to see if there are any burials of Thomas Robinson or Mary there.

I see on freebmd there is a Thomas Robinson died 1849 Sedbergh and a Mary Robinson 1839 Ledbergh  (prob Sedbergh). Do you think these could be the ones?

Regards

Shelagh
