Thank you so much, Mary did also have a sister Agnes. I need to join Ancestry again, so this can be my motivation.

Will let you know how I get on.

Hallo

I am reserching my Great Grand Mother Mary Hillis. She was born in Ireland about 1870 and died in Dundee 20th June 1906. Her de facto Husband was John Rattray Butchart. They had 5 children that I know off. John, David, Elizabeth, Mary Ann and Thomas (my Grandfather).

Mary had a Brother Joseph that lived in Glasgow. The Census  froms have always said Ireland, but on the 1911 it said Katesbridge. I would love to know where Mary was born.

I live in New Zealand and that makes research a little bit harder. I have made contact with various cousins, but no one seems to know of the Irish connection.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Kind regards,

Liz Reeve

Hallo Sharon,

Thanks so much for that information, have looked at Ramond's site before and but they are not my Hillis's, but will keep trying. Belong to the Family History Society as well, so I think I will see if another Member can help me out.

Many Thanks,

Liz

Hallo,

Does any other researcher have family in Katesbridge? I am looking for a family of Joseph Hillis born in Katesbridge in 1856/1857. Until the 1911 Census it always had Down or Ireland, but at last it has Katesbridge. I am actually trying to find Mary Hillis, Joseph's Sister my Great Grand Mother.

Maybe some one knows what Family History Centre is close to Katesbridge. I am from New Zealand, so it makes some research a little hard sometimes.

Many Thanks,
Liz Reeve   :)

MOrning,

Thanks for the replies that I have received, have made contact with a Tartan Cousin, and together we are searching for the Grand Parents. I know that my Great Grand Mother was in Glasgow, before moving to Dundee.

There seems to be a lot of us out there related to this side of the Hillis family.
My Great Grand Mother was with my Great Grand Father John Butchart for many years, he was from Dundee.

I am from Nelson, New Zealand, trying to find my Great Grand Mother Mary HILLIS born 1870 Down, Ireland. Her brother Joseph lived in Glasgow and died there in 1941.

Any help with this line of Hillis would be appreciated. John and Margaret HILLIS are their Parents names.

Regards,

Liz

Hi Davd,

Liz from Nelson, New Zealand. Have just seen your message. A year ago, so hope you have same email. My Great Grand Mother was Mary HILLIS, Joseph's sister. Mary died in Dundee in 1906. For years now on and off I have tried to find out which part of Ireland they came from. I believe on one of Joseph's census forms, it said Down, but Ireland has not the best records, it makes it a little bit harder.

Mary never got married to my Great Grand father John BUTCHART, but they had a few children. My Grand Father Thomas BUTCHART, being one of them.
There is a lady called Fiona, who does research and Joseph was probably her Great Grand father as well. Do you know her.

What was your Grand father's name? Would love to hear from you, I use various sites and have a few certificates etc.

Regards,

Liz Reeve
