Wiltshire / Re: GEORGE family. Sutton Veny

Thanks Bruce.
I haven't managed to get back as far as you on the Georges.  Benjamins father was George George 1781 and mother Hester 1783.
Benjamin married twice and had 6 children with 2nd wife sophia.  They were Charles A. 1846
Louisa 1848
William 1854
Joseph 1856
Sarah 1858
Comfort 1863
I found an Alfred but he was born in 1896. and Walter 1867.
You are probably right....no connection.  I haven't had a lot of luck with this branch of my family.
Regards. Eileen

I have Louisa George B 1848...who married Joseph Ball both lived in Longbridge Deverill.  Louisa was daughter of my gt/gt/grandfather Benjamin George.  I wonder if there is any connection to your Ball family.

I'm afraid I haven't any connection but my family came from Longbridge Deverill, which is close by.  As did your family, a lot of mine also went to Ontario.  I understand that at that time soldiers were returning from the war and the town councils paid for the various villagers to emigrate, due to lack of work.

Thanks for that.....very interesting.  I've no idea what type of stonework my Gt/grandfather did.

Sorry I have taken so long to reply, but have had sad event in family so haven't been on here.
My Georges' all started life in Longbridge Deverill, Wiltshire.  My gt/gt/grandfather was Benjamin B 1803.  A lot of them emigrated to Canada late 1800s.  Later, most of the family, including my Grandfather, went to S. London.

Canada / Francis George. C.E.F.
« on: Tuesday 13 April 10 20:40 BST (UK)  »
Some time ago I received a lot of help in tracking down my uncle Frank(Francis) George.  He went to Canada as a boy 1912c and later served in WW1.  He went on to serve in C.E.F. WW2.  I have a lot of paper work received from Canadian Library and Archives, including details of where and when he was serving.  From April 1940 it says Place U.K. where he appears to be until November 1940 where it says Place Fd.  Does this mean Field? In August 1941 it says again Place UK. until 1943 when he was killed in action. (Torpedoed)  The Archives sent me a photo of his grave in La Reunion cemetery,  Algeria.  These pages are hand written so not easy to read everything.  My question is, where in England would he have been stationed.  I'd be grateful for help in finding out.
Thank you.  Eileen.  p.s.  I should add that the reason we had problems finding him before was that he was serving under the name of Edward Lowe.  Goodness knows why?

I too would be very interested in that sort of information as my Gt/grandfather was a stone mason in Tiverton and I have been looking for anything to do with it for ages.
