The Common Room / Re: Marriage certificate

Sent off for some of the certificates. With all the different names I just want to be sure I have the right people. Thanks for your help in adding some additional information. Still don't know why they suddenly changed their marriage record in 1930!

Got the birth record for Robert Harry, mother/father matches up. Just the other one to find. He was born Chatterton Road, Bromley. In the Poplar Poor House in October 1913 Alice was described as having two children, 3 and 1 years. Looks like the other child was born about 1910.
Just seen the last post and looked at the birth cert and you are right despite their carelessness with names, correct father Emmanuel.
I will follow up the other births tomorrow. Thanks

The original certificate dated 22 August 1912 showed the groom’s name as Frederick Albert Edward Anderson, the wedding taking place at St Luke’s Church, Bromley. The note appearing on the copy I have says “In entry No 37 col 2 for Frederick Albert Edward Anderson read Frederick Albert Dennison otherwise Frederick Albert Edward Anderson, col 3 for 38 read 37 and in col 7 for Anderson read Dennison corrected on the 3rd December 1930 by me J Short vicar in the presence of Frederick Albert Dennison and Alice Dennison the parties married”
Can you just go to the church and ask for this sort of change or is there an official process to be gone through?
The wife and two subsequent children ended up for a short while in the Poplar poor house under the name of Anderson but I don’t know their forenames and haven’t found a birth under either surnames. (Wife’s maiden name Drew)

I have tried the bigamist route but cannot find any marriage using his birth name or any of the many aliases he used during a long and unsuccessful criminal career.

The marriage took place in 1912 with the groom giving a false name but the certificate was reissued in 1931 with the grooms correct name shown. Would there be any record of why this was done, by whom and who authorised it? I have asked the GRO but they cannot help.

I know that my uncle was in the RAF during WW2 and that he was stationed for some time at St Eval aerodrome Cornwall. I want to get his service record on behalf of his son but i have been unable to find any record online (for his service number). He was born on the 4th October 1916 and died on the 15th March 1975.
Will I be able to get his record without his number?

Yes I think that’s the 1939 and death entries. You mentioned Anderson and the removal record looks like her name as Anderson. All of this has led to me getting more and more confused!

Yes I have his criminal records from 1893 to 1931 with about 10 aliases so tracking him has been difficult. The 1912 marriage certificate shows is what I have ordered but wonder what the difference is with the suffix A.
I have also just found a Bromley removal order for his wife. The names appear to be completely different which has thrown another spanner in the works. The search goes on.

Ooops looks like I have been going down the wrong path. I am waiting for the marriage certificate 1912 of Frederick Dennison and Alice Drew and obviously selected the wrong. Thanks everyone for your help.
