Hello Davey, help is much appreciated. Are u in Armagh to have access to church records.Lucky u.
Can we start at the beginning? First in your list u have Dynes marrying Jane. Is this a dynes Gilpin or a surname Dynes?
William Gilpin marries  Eliza Jane Dynes in 1856 and has the 4 children jane richard elizabeth and james.

U say Richard 1773 marries an Elizabeth  and their son Richard 1822 marries Deborah Robinson (these are my gg Grandparents) and their son Richard is a twin to Samuel and born in 1864.
There I have a problem. My Richard (G Grandfather came to Australia and on his death cert in 1923 shows his birth in 1850. Family records show 4/4/1850.
Could the twin be another name and not Richard? It is said Richard G 1850 stayed in Ireland until age 18 and then went to Scotland and then later on to Australia..
Hope u don't mind all the question (probably sorry u ventured your help) but want to get it right.Really appreciate your time and help

Hello Somerville researchers. I am a Johhny come lately and don't have anything to contribute but I hope that I can learn a lot.
I joined in the Gilpin forum as my first post and discovered your saga.
My g g Grandfather was Richard Gilpin whose daughter Elizabeth 1855- 20/12/1923 in Rockhampton Queensland Australia married Youngston Somerville in I thought in 1877 when she was 22 according to her death cer t which I have a copy of.A  family researcher thought she had gone to Canada and when Youngston died she came to Qld Australia in June 1908. Did she stay in Armagh and then came out to join her brother Richard in Queensland.
With help from the Armagh forum I find she married Thomas Emmerson first in 1877 then Youngston in 1886.
Youngston born 1834 dying in 1907 was first married to Elizabeth Dynes in 1855.

I hope I have this correct. Wud u be able to help me with the Somerville line.

KatC did u have a copy of that marriage cert that showed Richard Gilpin as father in law. or anyone?

Any info on the Gilpins and Youngston S and his line wud be greatly appreciated.

this is my first foray into the message boards and the Irish Records the help has been fantastic.
Thanks Macka

Printed off info and had a read thru. also printed off the Somerville posts, which is a saga..
This is what I ended with, feel free to correct me if I'm wrong.
Richard Gilpin b 1821 died 1902 married Deborah Robinson 16/7/1847 in Seagoe Church of Ireland Lurgan.

(If the church page was there I wud have been able to find his parents Correct?)

His daughter Elizabeth born 1855 married 1.  Thomas Emmerson in 1877
2. Youngston Somerville  at Moira Methodist in 1886

Youngston 1834- 1907 was previously married to Elizabeth Dynes in 1855.

Is there any indication when Thos. Emmerson and Elizabeth Dynes died?

I think there must be more Gilpin children as the first I have listed is Richard in 1850. Matthew 1854 Elizabeth in 1855 then a gap to Samuel James in 1864.

Any suggestions how to track them down and details on Deborah Robinson. found a Deborah Gilpin born 1834 died 1894. Seems too young to have married in 1847.

My grandmother filled in Eliz Somervilles death details, now I play the whatif game. Whatif she did marry at 22 (as stated on cert) and that was to Emmerson and then Somerville later. Maybe that was the only one my Granny knew about.

If somerville died in 1907 and She came to Australia in June 1908 that wud fit in. Don't know where Canade comes into the equation. Maybe a family furphey.

I'm going to tap into the Sommerville discussion and see what eventuates there.

Thank you all for your help and if any more Gilpins or Robinsons pop up, wud love to know about them.  Always seems more info on the male side.

I found familysearch from your hints and will check the IGI.

Hi everyone Happy New Year.
I don't know the protocol. do I answer everyone separately or do a general reply about all the info, which I admit has floored me.
Have sought out that Somerville post and will take it and yours away to take in and then I'll come back.
I have a copy of Elizabeth Gilpin Somerville's death cert from here in Australia. Only the one marriage to Somerville is mentioned. I see that a lot of the Somervilles went to Canada. The only indication that Eliz and Youngson went to Canada was in a family History written on Richard Gilpin and the intermarriage with Misfeld family here in Oz. Maybe they stayed in Ireland.
Thanks for everything so far, will come back later with of course more questions

Armagh / GILPIN family Seagoe Armagh Ireland
« on: Friday 01 January 10 02:32 GMT (UK)  »
I am researching my Gilpin forebears. My G Grandfather came from Belteagh Seagoe Armagh. His name is Richard Gilpin and he was born on 4/4/1850 to Richard Gilpin a farmer and his wife Deborah Robinson. He had at least 2 brothers Matthew born Portadown  abt 1854, a Samuel James b 12/4/1864 in Lurgan and a sister Elizabeth B Portadown in 1855 who married a Youngston Somerville at Livingstone Portadown in 1877 before emigrating to Canada. After the death of her husband in Canada she joined brother Richard who had migrated to Australia, in 1881 with his wife Mary Elizabeth McConnell from Newtownards co Down.
I would appreciate any help and  info on any of the families.
