Hi Km1971

The link that you provided is definitely my family as Matthew Phibbs Ormsby was married to Eleanor O'Neil and came to South Australia pre 1853 as their son Francis was born here in Adelaide. Matthew and Eleanor's son George Francis was my 3 x great grandfather.

I googled the 12th Regiment of Foot and this website came up with the 12th Regiment having gone to the Eureka Stockade confrontation.

I have been unable to find how the Ormsby family came to South Australia and hopefully one day I can break down the brickwall.

Cheers Deb

Hi
I would like to say thank you all so much for the messages about the Ormsby Family. I tend to believe that Matthew Ormsby is the possible father for my ancestor Matthew Phibbs Ormsby (1). The death notice in the South Australian Register on 27th August 1873 has Liverpool Mercury please copy. Would someone please be able to see if a death notice appeared in the Liverpool Mercury Aug/Sept 1873??? Matthew Phibbs Ormsby (1) died 7th August 1873 Kadina South Australia.
Thank you so much
Cheers Deb

I have come across a death notice for my 4 x great grandfather in South Australia and it states that Matthew Ormsby (1) was a soldier in the 12th Regiment of Foot. Matthew was born in Sligo Ireland and I believe they may have been stationed in Lancashire as I have found a Matthew Ormsby (who may be the father of Matthew Ormsby (1)) in the 1861 English census in Liverpool Lancashire and he was a retired military officer and from Sligo Ireland. Also in the South Australian death notice for Matthew (1) was a statement of "Liverpool Mercury please copy". My 4 x great grandfather was in South Australia in 1853 as he had a son born in that year in Adelaide. I have googled 12th regiment of foot and it points to them being in Victoria for the Eureka Stockade. Would anybody have any idea where I could get more information on the 12th regiment please???? and I am seeking information about the Ormsby family in Toxheth Park in Liverpool please????
Thanks Deb Robinson

Was this regiment connected with Sligo????

Yorkshire (West Riding) / Bairstow Family Northowram Yorkshire
« on: Wednesday 10 January 07 06:21 GMT (UK)  »
Hi all

My ancestor Jacob Bairstow married Sarah Garth in 1826 Halifax Yorkshire (Source: IGI) and they migrated to South Australia in 1838. They had Joseph, Robert, Hannah and Abraham. I am descended from Joseph who married Catherine Halls Adelaide South Australia.

I have found the children's baptisms in the IGI but I wish to find out who Jacob & Sarah's parents were and if there are any other family still in Yorkshire that I do not know about.

Can anyone help me please? :)

Thanks in Advance
Debbie from Adelaide SA (where it is 39C)

Oxfordshire Lookup Requests / BODDINGTON 1841 OXFORDSHIRE CENSUS
« on: Friday 18 November 05 01:04 GMT (UK)  »
Hi

I was wondering if anybody is able to please help me find my 3x great grandfather. Alfred Boddington was born in 1823 in Oxfordshire. I am not sure of the area but he arrived in Victoria Australia in1848 and married in the same year. I was hoping he would be on the 1841 census which could reveal his parents and perhaps his siblings. I have been trying to find him for years then suddenly I thought of this website as it has helped me in the past with good results.

Thank You

Cheers Debbie from South Australia
