Suffolk / Re: Samuel Mowell born 1768 Suffolk?
« on: Friday 16 September 11 21:39 BST (UK)  »
The point about my Samuel is that I cannot find his parents and I didn't find any Samuels when I looked at the Whatfield families.  Therefore I don't know if there's a connection or not do I?  Maybe you could simply give me info about the Samuels you have - I would be so pleased and grateful as thgis is proving a huge brick wall to my research.

Thanks
Anne

Thanks so much for offers of help.  I have looked at the Whatfield Mowles family trying to find a connection but couldn't.  I would certainly like the opportunity to see the family tree and history from Isaac Mowles.

Sadly, it looks as though there is no connection as my Bailey from Ipswich was Frederick Moss Bailey born 1885 and his father was William born 1852 Stuston - no surprise though as its such a common name!

I have Baileys from Ipswich/ Sudbury in my family tree and have lots of info.  Give me an idea of names and dates so we can look for possible links.

Thanks for your suggestion - I will certainly follow it up.  There is a large contingent of Mowell, Mowles etc in Hertfordshire but I had always considered there was no link.  Certainly the date of birth looks right so I will have to start researching with a fresh mind!

Suffolk / Samuel MOWELL born 1768 Suffolk?
« on: Monday 01 November 10 14:40 GMT (UK)  »
Please can somebody help with a look up for Samuel Mowell b. 1768 in Suffolk.  I have looked in Mendham parish records already and cannot find his birth, so wondered if he could be in a parish contiguous to Mendham.
I believe his parents were Samuel Mowell brn Mendham 1736 and Rebeckah Larke born Gillingham Norfolk  1733. Thanks Anne

Occupation Interests / Re: Domestics working in Paris in 1820s

Thanks for your reply and suggestions.  Yes, they were back in England by 1841 as the Census shows that they were in Paradise Row Chelsea.  They were no longer in service.  The head of the family was working as a "whitster" (a linen bleacher in a laundry, a skill he would have learned in Norfolk where his father was a linen weaver.)

Do you know if there were any special qualifiactions to allow you to have achild baptised in the British Embassy- I did contact them, incidentally but they do not have search facilities apparently and I would have to go there.

It is a good suggestion about the employers being in Paris only temporarily, I will think on that!

Thanks again. Anne

Occupation Interests / Domestics working in Paris in 1820s

Please can anyone suggest if there is anywhere to find out about my ancestors who were in service for a family in Paris. They had a daughter born there and baptised in Chapel of British Embassy in 1823.  I would love to find out who they worked for as family story goes that their son was set up in his publishing business in Chelsea by a wealthy benefactor.  Could have been the same family?!

I have various amounts of information around the family variously spelt as shown.  Anyone with info abt the parents of  Samuel Mowell born Mendham Suffolk in 1768 I would love to hear from you.  I believe his father and mother were Samuel Mowell,  b. Mendham 1736 and Rebecca Larke, b. Brockdish but cannot find evidence to support this.
