Something wrong with that Blackburn transcription. If Mary died 1790, she couldn't have a son aged four in 1800.

I have often wondered about this year gap in the records, it has been interesting to read your ideas. Shame I have nothing to add, except possibly that St Marys was closed for a while. It was a chapelry of Ripon at the time and folk may have had to go there for marriages. A check of Ripon's records for that year might give clues.

Just Amazing --- what a great site for Calverley records.

Thank you. We try.

Excellent! I know the actual building. That solves that then. I had noticed that many of the families that used it came from the new estates that had being built between New Blackpool and Farnley proper to the West. St Michaels must have kept the records until 1963. Thank you for your help.

Yorkshire (West Riding) / Missing C of E Church?
« on: Monday 08 July 13 05:24 BST (UK)  »
I am currently transcribing later baptisms (1950-1960) from  the former St Michael's Church in Farnley, Leeds. In many cases, in the margin there is a note to say the baptism took place elsewhere, which is usually just "St James", referring to the chapel in New Farnley. But there are also a lot of notes indicating that the baptisms took place at "St Pauls", which is a chapel I have never heard of. The addresses of those families are all in the Farnley area. Has anyone any idea where this chapel may have been?

Thanks Cathy, you're a star! It's also the ED before. Two enumeration districts.

We have pretty much everything we can find for the non-conformist churches within our area of interest, including members books, sunday school lists etc, but we haven't found any minutes. As you say btf, they would be useful.
