I think the new graveyard around St Bartholomew's is the only one in Buntingford - some time ago the local coucnil tried to extend it but the local tax payes voted it down !!

Its also nearly full - few more years and there will be no room at the inn .....

These documents are good for info ...

http://www.hertsfhs.org.uk/hfphs30.html

very cheap and have good diagrams of layouts but it all requires the headstone to still be there .... and this I fear is Keith's problem.

I have most of the MI books for the local area so if Keith knows where his Grandad was married or anythign like that we can track it from there

Hi Keith,

two cemetery's to play with here ... the one around the church is all pre 1900 burials - post 1900 is in the new cemetery which is very much alive so to speak. Your Grandfather would be in the new cemetery with all the other 1930's burials.

These people ...

http://www.hertsfhs.org.uk/hfphs30.html

list all the instriptions in the new and the old church yards ...

don't get to excited - I've had a look over my copy and can't see any Daniels ... sorry

The headstones were cleared from the Old Churchyard for some mad reason, a fair number were recovered by a chap who lives next door and they are now all round the edge - your Grandad will DEFINATLY be in the new church yard.

top right picture here

new graveyard is to the left of the picture.

happy hunting and hope this lot helps ...

Technical Help / Re: Help! Trying out Family Historian 4..but have a problem

*!  I Believe  !*

That the backup just deals with a GEDCOM format data file - you would need to manually take a copy of the working folder as well - that's the folder thats called the name of your project with an extension .fh_data inside which is a Media and aSettings folder.

The contenets of these fodlers basicaly make up the system.

When your asked to see the backup it's showing you the GEDCOM file and NOT the mediain this folder system - Persoanlly I just backup the whole folder to another drive and be done with it.

Importing and exporting to other programs I've not tried and suspect will be fraught with danger/difficulties !!

Join the forum and ask your questions - Jane is a close to a person who works for the company but will not admit to it that I've seen and I'm sure will help you out.

Regards

PS I'm sure your not stupid  :)

Hi,

I use FH 4 and it does the trick for me ... their after sales support is a bit odd to say the least the company wants to be anonomous BUT if you sign up for the mail list here

http://www.family-historian.co.uk/community/fhu

Then a nice lady called Jane jumps on just about every question you might ask - sure she will be able to help with your question.

Cantab Armig dein/ Jacobi Whitlock de Buckingham Armig/ uxorem)  mortua Margareta duxit Eliz/ Iohan Gore, Lond mil filiam qua/ habuit Paulum Georgium et Elizabeth (primo Gregor Baker Stafford/ gen mox Iohan Crowch Com Hertford/ gen uxorem)  Obijt Sept 11 / Anno 1658  Aetais Suae Sexagesimo Septimo.

In memory of George Pike Esq whose remains lie buried not far from here and whose wife was Margaret daughter of Edward Woodcott of Ipswich, Gent., by whom he had had three daughters, Anne ( wife of William Violet of Norfolk, Gent) Cecily (wife of Thomas James of Hartford, Gent.,) and Mary (first wife of Thomas Pritchard of the county of Cambridgeshire Esq, then of James Whitlock of Buckingham Esq.,)  On the death of Margaret, he (George) married Elizabeth daughter of John Gore of London kt by whom he had Paul, George and Elizabeth (first wife of Gregory Baker of Stafford Gent and soon after of John Crowch  of the county of Hertford Gent.)  He died Sept 11 in the year 1658 aged 67

I'd love to take all the credit for the translation and I did start most of it off but a good friend of mine, who knows more about Latin than I ever will, finished the difficult bit's off for me. (Thanks Anne & Joyce)
