Tom,

Glascoego Cottage (built 1830) is the former name of the house now known as Balbrogie House. I know this as I live there!

Somewhere, there is a parish map of about 1840 with the house clearly marked on it, with the old name. Unfortunately, I can't find it right now.

Cottage is rather misleading as it was (and is) quite a substantial dwelling. At one point Kinellar House was known as Glascoego Lodge, and I wonder if there is some sort of connection to the main house, although I have heard tell that it was built to house the manager of a whiskey distillery that was opened (and quickly) closed in the village of Blackburn.

It is the large white house visible on the left of the old A96 at the top of Balbrogie Woods.

Send me your email address and I will happily send you some photographs.

Sincerely,

Nick Morton
