Elizabeth Storrie was given on the 1867 Death certificate of John McLeod as his mother. He died in Prestonpans however they probably lived in Inveresk and cockenzie. He is buried in Tranent graveyard.
His age at death was 75 making his birth 1792.
We could not find a marriage certificate, nor did they appear as a couple on any census. We could not find siblings. Unless they were married elsewhere it seems they were not a couple.

A christening at the same time and place showed a John McLeod jnr born to John McLeod snr and Mary Fraser, they were married and went on to have more children.

Also, did you see any other McLeods there?
Sue

No but we didn't cover the whole site yet, there are no dates on the stones only the letters.
See attached for pic of White horse close where John stayed at the time of his marriage, more pics are on the net.

Dear Margaret
Visited yesterday, there are 2 marker stones with "J McL" on them. these were in amongst graves dated around 1860. The grave next to these is for the 'Traill' family. Interestingly David's son Sinclair was married to Elizabeth Johnstone, her mother was Elizabeth Traill.
I don't know why there were 2 stones. There may be 2 plots, perhaps my question below answers this. Can you confirm that John's father was a John McLeod Married to Mary Fraser. They Were from Inveresk and and a son William in 1790. They were married in North Leith in 1787.

There are 2 marker stones in Tranent churchyard with 'J McL' on them I am keen to know if these are for John McLeod who died 1867. Can your listing shed any light on this? Also interested in why there are 2 stones, is it that there are 2 plots?
