Hi Sheila. Nice to hear from you. Thanks for the reply.

Robert Blower was my great great grandad, his son, William Henry Blower b. 1886 d. 1941 was my great grandad (Janet's brother). William had 13 children making his eldest daughter Elizabeth Blower my nanna. This making you my dad's second cousin.

I found quite abit out about the Blower's but hit a brickwall regarding Samuel. Many people lead to a Samuel Blower b. 1829, married Stockport c. 1853 and died 1897 in Newton (Newton Heath). This is not him so I found out. I couldn't find his son Robert until I spelt the surname as Blore. Samuel's address on Robert's birth cert and the 1861 census is 37 Lombard Street, Deansgate and the surname is spelt Blore on the birth cert. Even Samuel's prison record is Blore, same address and has his year of birth down as 1832. Some of Samuel's daughters surnames are also spelt this way but the use of Blower pops up in other records. I believe 'our' Samuel died in 1900 in Salford and Blore is down on his record.

What records do you have?

Hiya,
Sorry I didn't reply to you last year regarding Maria Blower. As you know my great grandad William Henry Blower is your great nanna's brother. What other information do you have on her? How many children etc, where they lived?

Thanks,

Wayne

Lancashire / Samuel Blower - Boatman Manchester
« on: Tuesday 09 September 14 19:52 BST (UK)  »
Hello.

Basically I have hit a brick wall regarding research for Samuel BLOWER born c.1832.

I have found him in the 1861, '71, '81 and '91 census. Living with his wife, Janet/Janette and children in Manchester in the 1861 and 1871 census. In the 1881 and 1891 census he is recorded on a vessel/barge. On these census his area of birth changes on each one ranging from Dudley in Staffordshire in 1861, Manchester in Lancashire in 1871, Trent Moor, Staffordshire in 1881 (I have found nothing of this area), Trenttham in Staffordshire in 1891 and Stone, Staffordshire on his prison record in Bell Vue Gaol in Manchester in 1863.

All I am looking for is beyond Samuel within the Blower name. On his marriage certificate with Janet BRUCE in 1853 he is a widower and his father is a Thomas BLOWER a boatman. Other than this I can find nothing. Maybe a different spelling of the surname? But I have tried numerous ways of spelling it.

I hope some of you can lead me into different avenues of research regarding this surname and names mentioned.

Many Thanks.

Hi Radcliff....on the last known passenger list she is visiting a house in Glasgow. No name given and its 207 Gourlay Street, Springburn, Glasgow. I can not find out if it was a relative, hostel or anything else as I can not research it or who lives there. All I know it has been demolished since.

As for the death record that will be out of the question as she arrived back in Scotland 23 November 1929 with a new born baby that she had on the ship Athenia on the 18 November 1929. The reason I never mentioned the baby is of course I know where the baby went from here as she was adopted once arrived back in Scotland and the baby in question is my grandmother.

Flattybasher9 I will look at that record, thanks.

Any help will do!!

I am looking for a Margaret Robertson Mitchell, born Salford, England in 1905 to Scottish parents, Agnes Gillies Mitchell (nee Struthers) and Robert Mitchell from Falkirk, Scotland.

They emigrated to Sarnia, Ontario, Canada in 1913 from Greenock, Scotland.
Margaret making a return to Scotland in 1928 with her father after Agnes, her mother died.

Margaret then goes back to Canada in June 1929 and then returns back to Scotland in Nov 1929. This is the last I know of Margaret after this date. I have found her birth certificate, and all her passenger records.

All I can suggest is that she either stayed in Scotland, hence why I can not find anymore records or she got married in Scotland and went back to Canada.

It is a mystery within the family.

Any help, hints, clues or information would be highly appreciated.

Hi,

Maria Blower b. 1889 is the sister of my great grandad, William Henry Blower b. 1886. Her father is Robert Blower b. 1860 and mother is Maria Mitchell b. 1860.

I had the same problem trying to find Maria's dad's birth but with no luck, so I tried various spellings of the surname, Blower, Bloor, Bloore etc.

I eventually found him recorded as Robert Blore 1860 b. Deansgate, Manchester.
So maybe Marie Blower b. 1889 is recorded as Maria Bloor, 1889 (Chorlton, Lancashire, 8c).

What I did notice in the 1901 census with my Blower family is that my great grandad, William Henry Blower was born in Salford unlike his sisters, who were born Chorlton/Hulme area of Manchester (although Salford is just over the River Irwell, so not far from Hulme/Chorlton).

What other information do you have on Maria, her sisters etc?

Hope to hear from you soon.
