Hi Penderiki! Care to share your name? I lived in 37 Innisfallen from about 1944-45 until 1952. I remember Mrs. Gibneys dairy, milk & Eggs. The shop changed hands before I left to a Mrs. or Ms. "Hogg" or something like that. Ellises's shop was on the other corner. Later became Slattery's. Down from Gibney's you had familie's, I can't remember them all, but there was Kenny's, Lawless's. Accross the road, Mrs. Culhane and her son John (hope I spelled that right). The Bree's, Then  Scarlett's I think, Mick Coyne, Eileen Burke & McCann's on the high step. Skip a few then Paddy Kenny, Mrs Guthrie, skip1 then Bartley's. Top John Felming and the shop.Accross the road Traynor's, Down at Lynche's shop, 72 Condon's, 75 McKeever's. Further down on high steps, Barkers or Bakers (lost a young son about 1950 in a bike accident.) On the other, Mrs. O'Hanlon (Shay the Cyclist) Butler's then Linsey's. Opposite Valentia Parade. There were Murray's There were also Mr.Mrs. Gunning Finally from my memory a family the lived in one of the two story houses at the bottom of the street ie. 1 or  now live in no 12 formally Mrs. Babbs Thompson. I hope this misc. load of information, again from my memory only, can trigger off some more. Until I got a post from James Mulvey yesterday I would not have thought of 10% of this. I returned to Innisfallen in 1974 and lived there until 2002. A lot had changed at that time, but a lot was still there. Regarding Gibney's shop, every corner had a shop most of them "Off Licences" as we know them to-day.

Hi, James, My name is Tony Carey, I lived with my Grandmother in no. 37 Innisfallen Parade. Her name was "Guthrie" I was sometimes called Tony Guthrie. 37 is on the opposite side to Gibneys and about 5 doors towards the top. Joe McCann lived opposite "Gibney's" That was mid 40s. My Mother and father later bought a house  No.60 opposite my Grandmothers. I'm long gone from there but my Son still owns 37.

Hi Penderiki,
I lived in Innisfallen Parade N.C.Rd. which wouldn't be too far from Caple Street, they were houses built circa 1880s. I was born 1942 but growing up as a child i remember Mrs Gibney who lived nearby (across the road) If my memory served me right she ran a little dairy shop (Milk, Eggs, Cheese etc.) I have looked up the electoral records and the number of the house would confirm it was a shop. I left the area for a number of years in 1959 and again I believe she had died sometime around then. Her Name was Brigid Gibney. This info is only from memory and the electoral records of  1939 -1940 but hopefully it may start you off or jog somebodys thoughts. Good Luck

Regards

Tony

Dublin / Re: what church would a family go to if they lived
« on: Tuesday 22 December 09 20:55 GMT (UK)  »
Hi all
what church would a family go to if they lived at 24 St. Joseph's Place, Dublin it's believed they were RC
thanks

I think St. Joseph's Berkley Road would be for Dorset Street.

Dublin / Re: Nearest RC Church to Fizgibbon Street Dublin

Bee Mack, While Oaks & Acorns is correct about Gardiner Street Church being the nearest, back then it was not recognized as a diocesan or parish church and I think the parish for Fitzgibbon street would have been  North William Street which is also quite close.

Wexford / Re: FORTUNES of ballycanew

Hi, I only came across this site this morning while browsing "Ballycanew"  I live in Ballycanew for the last eight years and have a little information about "Fortune's" Larry Fortune and his brother (I think his name is John) owned and ran Fortunes Bar in the main street.
In 2002 it was bought by the Masterson Family and re opened as the Ramble Inn. Larry still resides in Ballycanew and is well known throughout. His brother resides in UK. I know its a while since your original post but I hope this is a lead you could do with.
