Carlow / Vines family
« on: Wednesday 10 May 06 23:41 BST (UK)  »
Trying to find out if my wifes ancestors named Vines are from County Carlow. They came to the USA in the 1850's. If not from Carlow does anyone have an idea where in Ireland they came from. It is not a very common Irish name.

Sharon: I would appreciate two lookups. The first is Richard Collins in 1901 in Abbeyfeale, county Limerick. The second is Bridget Collins in 1911 in Abbeyfeale. Thanks in advance for your help.

James & Mary Hughes came to the USA sometime after 1859. He died in New York City in 1865. When they came is a mystery. I have no idea of what happened to Patrick Hughes. The same holds true for the Cavanagh family. There does not seem to be an easily distinguishable record of either family in the 1851 census. They may have come to England after 1851 and either left England or died before 1861.

I have a marriage certificate for James Hughes and Mary Cavanah(Cavanagh). They were married October 8, 1856 at St. Werburgh's Chapel, Grange Lane, Birkenhead. James was 21 which would have him born in 1834-35. He lived at 48 William St. in Birkenhead in 1856. His father Patrick was probably at least 35 years of age in 1851. Mary was 20 years old at the time of marriage. Her address was given as Seymour St. Tranmere. The district of the marriage was Wirral.

THey must have left England. James Hughes died in the USA in 1865. Is there anything in the 1851 census?
