Australia / Re: migrant from Ireland about 1871.

Thankyou Mark for the reply.
My Ramsay ancestor, also John (great grandfather) came to WA 1851 as an 8 yr old and later moved to live in Victoria.  His father was Robert, a pensioner guard on the convict ship Minden.  He was ex Royal Artillery.  John born at Woolwich UK.  I have much of the Ramsay history of this line but am stuck as regards Elizabeth (Eliza/Lily) nee Barr,  wife of John.  She came from Dublin.  I can't find how or when she reached Australia - about 1871 the best guess.
I don't think we have the same Ramsay ancestors.  Would you know from where in Scotland your Ramsays originated?
Regards

Australia / migration to australia

In the mid 1800s a number of ships left Englandcarrying single females to Australia mostly to address the male/female imbalance.  Does anyone have knowledge of how young women from Ireland arrived?  (Ports of departure and route followed.)  Are there Irish records of who migrated?

Andrew and Elizabeth  Barr nee Wheeler had a daughter named Elizabeth (Eliza) born April 1852.   She came to Australia (Victoria possibly about 1871) where she married a John Ramsay in Melbourne early 1872.
Looking to find how, when, why she travelled to Aus. and the route taken.
Any suggestions? ???

Yes
James St comes into the Barr family history.
It was Elizabeth Wheeler's address when she married Andrew Barr in 1844.

Sorry
Unable to help re Thomas Gamble.
There is a "Princeps Road" in the suburb of East Fremantle, Western Australia.
I don't know its origin.  East Fremantle Town  Council may be able to help. (admin[at]eastfremantle.wa.gov.au) phone 08 9339 9339

Hello
I believe that the Andrew Barr family are also my forebears and would like to learn more about them.My great grandmother was Eliza Barr born 3rd April 1852 whose father was Andrew Barr a ropemaker from Dublin.  Her death certificate entry says so and there was a relative Maria.
Eliza married a John Ramsay in Victoria, Australia in 1872.  Their first child was named Maria.  My grandmother was the third child.
I have plenty of the Ramsay history but not the Barrs.
I would be grateful if you could help.
Thanking you
