Merionethshire Lookup Requests / Williams Llanegryn
« on: Sunday 13 November 11 17:52 GMT (UK)  »
Hello everyone

I am trying to find details of my ancestor Mary Williams born c1821 Llanegryn.  She married  in or around c1841 John Pugh fromBangor who was a Master Mariner.  Does anyone have any possible links?  Can anyone look up possible births for me?

Many thanks

Sorry for the delay in getting back to you.

I have just checked my records and find that John Roland Grimshaw died on 30th November 1947!  This should help!

Many thanks again

Hello Celia

The Grimshaw family I believe, were quite a well known family in the area, as you rightly say in those days everyone knew their locality and the local people well.  I know that the house they lived in had a front door on two streets (Albion and Montpelier Crescent) as it was on the corner of Albion Street, I think they lived in no 62 or 64.  Nellie and John had five sons, the eldest John was my Dad.  When I was born my parents lived there for a year or two but by then my paternal grandparents had both died and the brothers shared the house with their wives.  One wife was Inge, my Mum was Vi and another wife was Jean.  The five Grimshaw sons were John, Harry, Bob, Edgar and Peter.  They used to go to the hotel Vic and even I remember some names of people they knew (Todd family and Sixsmith, both had shops I think nearby).  I think that at one time the brothers had a small firm in New Brighton (commercial wholesalers).  Nellie was quite a character and I think after her husband died she had a 'beau' who was Norwegian (so family legend has it!).

Hope these memories make jog yours, you never know!

Thanks again....

Celia

Thank you so much for the very time consuming look up on my behalf!  I appreciate your hard work very much.
I do not know why the records seem so elusive for both of my ancestors, John Roland Grimshaw died in 1949 and Ada Nellie Grimshaw died in January 1951.  She may have been just recorded as Nellie Grimshaw but other than that I have no further information which may help!  They were both living in Albion Street New Brighton at the time of their deaths.  If you have time to look up any further I would really appreciate it but please don't go to any trouble or out of your way (more than you have already).

Kind Regards

Dorinda

Hi Celia

Many thanks I really appreciate it.

They were not RC but I am not sure of their exact denomination, probably C of E.

Look forward to hearing from you....
