Family History Beginners Board / Re: Hospital birth 1944

Thanks for input. In this case mother was younger and don’t think she would be in area when due to give birth. Maybe it was for health reasons. Just curious and interested in other views. Thanks

Family History Beginners Board / Hospital birth 1944

Why would a first time mother who lived in a small country village be taken over 20 miles to a city maternity hospital to give birth when it was usual to have home births. NHS services started in 1948.

Thank you

Thank you all for information. I use compatible cartridges and printer reminds me of this, but they are accepted. I will try a new cartridge and hopefully that will solve problem. Some interesting information.

Have an Epsom XP352 printer. Two cartridges required replacing. It accepted one cartridge (they are identical) and rejected the magenta one. Tried taking out and reinserted but doesn’t work.
Is this a fault with printer and should I buy new one.

Many thanks

East Lothian (Haddingtonshire) / Re: Smith and Finlayson of Haddington etc.

1851 census of  Catherine( Finlayson) widow  of Cornelius Smith with 2 children Cathrine age 41 family servant and John age 30 journeyman shoe maker.
The address is shown as 1 Market street, St Johns, Haddington.

I visited Haddington and found the house, it is on 3 levels.  It can be found on the internet either as Kinloch house orDower house.    It is now a lovely family home.  What interests me was this house divided up into accommodation for families.

In the 1841 census they lived in Court street Haddington.
