Thursday, 26 January 1775
Worcester, Worcestershire, England

King-Swinford, Jan 16, 1775.

SIR,-By inserting in your Paper the follow-
ing Article of Intelligence, or the Substance of
it, you will oblige many of your constant Readers,
    Your's, LEGION.

"On Friday last was interned, without any
Funeral Ceremony, in the Parish Church-Yard
of King-Swinford, Elizabeth Bissell, aged 73,
one of the [People called Quakers. She desired
to lie among her numerous Progeny, who have
bee baptized in the established Church, but was
herself debarred the Use of the Burial Service,
as being unbaptized.-What is remarkable is,
that she was the last Person of that Persuasion in
that populous Parish, there having been in one
Day (a few Weeks since) fifteen baptized by the
Rev. Mr. Willett, Curate, viz. Mary Muchall
and twelve of her Children, together with _
Holt, her Brother, and _ Mason, her Sister,
both married People."

Yes, the census records appear to confirm that Edward Arthur had married a Mary Ann Hingley - I included the entry for Henry Arthur as that was at least at a year before Edward and Mary Ann were found on the census together. Neither you or I appear to be able to find them on the 1881 Census. No index is infallible and neither is the person registering the ceremony. So there is a possibility that Edward was erroneously mistranscribed as Henry

well it says Lye, Christ Church there on the line, and indicates that the copy volumes of marriages from which the indexes were compiled are now located at Dudley Register Office, - so there should be at least a Church copy and another one for the General Register Office.

The site blackcountryparishregisters which is maintained by a FreeReg volunteer indicates that the records have been transcribed for the relevant period

CHRIST CHURCH - LYE (CHURCH OF ENGLAND)

Marriages
18 Nov 1839 - 27 Sep 1896 - (PF) (M) 500 entries
4 Oct 1896 - 6 Jun 1911 - (PF) (M) 500 entries

FreeREG does have records but not for the relevant time period

The potential marriage was at Lye, Christ Church, now kept at Dudley Register Office. The parish register site indicates it's already been transcribed.

I would go with your first instincts - which was

3 May 1786 • St John the Baptist, Halesowen, Worcestershire, England
John Parish, infant, buried on 3rd May 1786. Page 308 of Halesowen Parish Registers

indexed on Ancestry as John Paris

Burials John Parish, Inft May 3rd.

Do you have a death date for Edward Wellings or did he migrate abroad?

Page 10.

BAPTISMS solemnized in the Parish of Onibury in the County of Salop in the Year 1817

When Baptized. | Child's Christian Name. | Parents Name. Christian. Surname. | Abode | Quality, Trade or Profession | By whom the ceremony was performed.
No. 80. | Nov 23 | Edward Son of | Edward & Ann | Wellings | Walton | Labourer | T: Wellings

there's an Edward (died 1849, Kidderminster Registration District, aged 62 Years) & Ann Wellings, at Wolverley, near Kidderminster in 1841 -- both born out of county - with children Richard, William, Emanuel and Joseph - all born Worcestershire

Edward was buried 04 May 1849, Saint John the Baptist's Church, Kidderminster, aged 62 Years

also a William Wellings at Mill Street, Kidderminster - born out of county, circa 1776

a Richard Wellings, at Onibury in 1851 - born Onibury, Shropshire, circa 1799, a grocer, married to Mary

Mary Brian, born circa 1785, Onibury, Shropshire, together with Brother John Wellings, born circa 1785, Onibury, Shropshire - living at Onibury in 1851 - presumably the same John as living with Roger Wellings in 1841

There's no "correct" marriage entry on West Midlands BMD / FreeBMD

but there is this entry which is worth a look at

West Midlands Marriage indexes for the years: 1890
Surname   Forename(s)   Surname   Forename(s)   Year   Church / Register Office   Registers At   Reference

appears to indicate that the records are transcribed for FreeREG - perhaps contact them to see if they can be uploaded?
