Hi
I have a Mary McCaughern born about 1865 parents Rose Mooney and James McCaughern, Ballydonnelly, Rasharkin. I think it is she who marries Dennis McMullan, St Mary's, Rasharkin 12 Sep 1886

Catherine McCaughern married Robert McCaw 14 Aug 1885. I assume they were presbyterians. If this is so her parents were John McCaughern and Mary Ann Boyd, married 23 July 1861, Rasharkin.  Catherine was born 3 Aug 1862 at Lisnagavor, Rasharkin and died in Glasgow. She had 6 brothers and 6 sisters.
John McCaugherns parents were John McCaughern and Elizabeth Buick
Could someone confirm that the famly were Protestant?
Thanks for the other information

I do not have much on this family, as my interest is with McCaughern, although my grandmother's middle name was McCaw or McClaw.

Hugh McCaw sr was born in Magheraboy, about 1840. His parents were James McCaw (c1796) and Mary ? The family are in he Rasharkin 1851 census in Moneyleck.

Hugh jr married Agnes Patterson in Glasgow 12 Jul 1900. They lived in Maryhill and in the 1900 census there are 2 children Leticia Adams and Sarah Margaret. I notice I have a death date for Hugh in 1911, although that probably came from another tree and the only Hugh McCaw dying in Lanarkshire in scotlandspeople is 1914. Hope the 1911 census will give you more info

Derry (Londonderry) / Re: Info Please on McCahon Family

Thanks for the information, I will check it with what I have and come back to you over any differences, or further information I have.
The McCahon/McCaughern family are definitely the same. My ggrandfather was an Alexander McCaughern born abt 1852 in Rasharkin. However, he was married in Finvoy Presbyterian Church under the name of Alex McCahon. My gggrandmother was a Margaret McCaughern but I have found her under McCahon, McCaugherin and her brother and sisters have 5 different spellings of the name. Her father Hugh's gravestone has the name as McCahon.
I think that the difference in spelling is due to the way the Ministers heard the name. McCaughern is used around Rasharkin, and McCahon/McCahan is used in Kilrea etc. To complicate matters further, I have just discovered a large family who are McCahay in the early church records - before 1830 and McCahan or McCahon later.
The earliest Irish records 1760 have McCaughan, and I suppose the name was recorded as heard.
Thanks again
Alex
