Ellen, born to George and Elizabeth Ann Lloyd of Whitebrook in 1841 came to New Zealand with her parents on the ship Mary in 1849. She married George Stephenson in Dunedin in 1863. Ellen and George were my great grandparents.

Down / Re: Stephenson's of Down

Dear Fran

I am in New Zealand and know a bit about the Stephensons.  George, who came to NZ from Dublin, was my gg grandfather.  I understood until recently that his brother John had died in Ireland.  I am now interested to know what happened to his (John's) family- and whether there are any left in NZ.  I had a most interesting meeting with Aaron while I was staying in Edinburgh last month.  George, my gg grandfather is buried at the Hunterville Cemetery, but I have a photo of it.  It is a fair way off the main road.

I will be paying an extensive visit to Australia next year.

I look forward to hearing from you.

Dear Aaron

I take it your Catherine Elizabeth married Franices Howe.

I have quite a bit of info on the Stephensons - my late cousin Marie put a book together about the Stephensons & their forbears.

As it happens, I am booked to visit the UK and Scotland in July.  My partner is Scottish and we will be visiting his sister in the borders and staying with friends in Edinburgh.  Here's hoping the Icelandic volcano will  not cause us problems.

Where in Scotland do you work?  ie what city?

If you are free to meet while we are over there I could take the book "The Stephenson Family" and my memory stick.

Also you might like to key in on the internet "Robert Jearrad Stephenson".  This will bring up Malcolm Ward's website and quite a bit of Robert's journal.

Cheers

Dear Aaron

Your Catherine Elizabeth was my grandfather, Robert Jearrad's sister.

Robert & Catherine's father was George who came to NZ in 1861.  George had a brother John (Jack), who married Harriet Monsarrat in Ireland and they came to New Zealand.  Later Harriet and some of her children went to Queensland.

We have quite a bit of information on the Stephensons but I'm not sure what happened to Harriet's husband John.

Do you want to know more? Are you in New Zealand?

Cheers

Dear Carla

Have you found the information you were seeking on Stephensons in Dunedin?  My great grandfather George Stephenson's brother John married a Harriette Opelia Monsarrat in Dublin and I have more information on the family in Ireland and in New Zealand.
