Hi Mike.

You work so hard for this site, it is so much appreciated.

Wow!  I wasn't expecting so many children!  I'll have to get researching them on the other censuses.

There are a lot of George Clarke's in Hinckley I'm finding!

Thanks for the marriage and burial details too.

Once again, thanks, and much appreciated.

Greeting's Again Mark...

Thank you for your kind remarks.......

I just feel that .....
You  might well find that some of those children
Belong to the Samuel aged 37
But that was how it was listed ....

Hi

Yes, could be, but George, Sophia and Ezekial are definitely George's children because they are with him on the 1861 census.

Are George and Sophia on the 1841 census, maybe James won't be with them then and we can discount him!

Two of the children are in Hill, Worcestershire in 1861 lodging with or near Mary Ann Coltman, formerly Clarke, so that could be another daughter or a cousin! She was born c.1841.

I get the feeling the Clarke family will only be sorted out with the parish registers!

Thanks again,

Mark

Thank you  :)

1.30 in the morning, you are as obsessive as I am!!!

Thanks again.

I have found some baptism records for some of the children at IGI - George and Sophia only, plus two more daughters Harriett (b.&d.1844) and Jane (1834), who presumably must have died before 1841 then, or is staying with relatives.

IGI is invaluable, but frustrates me when it has baptism records for some children and not others!

Thanks again,

Mark  ;)

Hi Mark and Mike

Don’t talk to me about Clarke’s and Leicestershire! Mark, mine originate from Mountsorrel – so far.

Anyway, read your thread for obvious reasons and will fill in the 1851 census details where there seems to be a slight discrepancy at the end.

Ref: HO107/2082/278 Page 18
Address: Castle Street, Hinckley. (no. 56 on the schedule)

All surnames Clarke unless stated.

George – 47 – Head – Mar – Clock Maker – Leicester, Hinckley
Sophia – 46 – Wife – Mar – Stocking Maker Cotton – Leicester, Barwell
George – 18 – Son – Unm – Stocking Maker Cotton – Leicester, Hinckley
Elizabeth – 15 – Daur – Unm – Stocking Maker Cotton – Leicester, Hinckley
Hugh – 11 – Son – Winder – Leicester, Hinckley
Samuel – 9 – Son – Winder – Leicester, Hinckley
Sophia – 3 – Daur – Scholar – Leicester, Hinckley
Ezekial – 1 - Son – Leicester, Hinckley
Jane Wright – 79 – Mother in Law – Widow – Pauper – Leicester, Kirby
Samuel – 37 – Nephew – Mar – Stocking Maker (Cotton) – Leicester, Hinckley

Keep up the hunt – good luck.
John

Thanks :)

Yes, that confirms that Sophia was Sophia Wright.

Thank you.

Greeting's John.....

Sorry..... But I don't see how discrepancy comes into it...
My post clearly states that the information was from an
INDEX ONLY Census return.......
Therefore the name of Wright wouldn't come under the surname of Clarke.
Also the date of my post was before the release of the 1851 Census scans of the original returns, where I could have seen the whole of the Household and I would have stated the whole family ......

Hi Mike

Your original post mentioned a James 37, which I took to be the nephew that turned out to be Samuel on the census image.

Rest assured, only trying to be helpful.

John
