I am wanting to trace any reference to Richard and Eleanor Brooks in Dublin. Richard Brooks was a weaver, and should be in Dublin Directory if weavers are mentioned.  Any reference at all to these names or their marriage (RC) would be helpful.  Thank you

I have just noticed this posting and although I cannot help with your enquiry I was wondering if you knew anything about Denzille Street? My grandmother was born at 23 Denzille Street Dublin 1877. Do you have a description of the street?

Hi Margaret,

I visited Dublin two weeks ago and registered with the Library nearest to Denzille Lane ..They supplied me with the 1911 census details for Denzille Street...
From Form B for the Street I discovered that my family lived at Number one and it was described as  a Shop and private dwelling  Brick Walled, Tiled Roof,10 windows at the front of the house, between 5 and 8 rooms..and that there were 3 distinct families in this house..

I have a photocopy of form B  ..but it only details as far as Number 7....however they all seemed to be of similar size.

Denzille Street was in the Parliamentary Div of St Stephens Green, Poor law Union : South Dublin
District Electoral Div.. Trinity Ward
and there were only 25 houses/numbers in the Street.

I went to try and find it, but only found Denzille Lane... all newer houses...I did take a photo of the Road Name  and the local pub...which looked like it could have been there some years!!

If you would like me to pm them to you ..I can

Siobhan

In England

I have never been to Ireland but I think I would enjoy it. I am one of those people who have to plan everything precisely so as to maximize time. I will have to see if I can find a cheapo flight and hotel (only so I can spend more time searching). Ha Ha.

Oops! I will have to find where all the repositories are first so that I can get round everywhere. I am very restricted to dates I can travel that's the problem. However I am sure I can get round it somehow. ::)

It may prove cheaper to pay someone to search for me but you hear such horrendous stories from people about paying out large sums of money for virtually no information. I will have to think this through.

Margaret

How much can you get done in an day? I was thinking of a week to allow for all the sightseeing as well.

We are going to a wedding in Belfast soon and I managed to get the flights for nothing. So maybe I could do the same for Dublin and manage a few more days. Ha!Ha!

Will have to see what I can do.

Hi - I am trying to find info on my family O'Loghlen / O'Loughlin - my Gt Gt Grandfather James O'Loghlen / O'Loughlin (1835) was a "Cooper" in Dublin and so was his son Torlough / Terence O'Loghlen /O'Loughlin (1863)  - as "Coopering" was a occupation passed down the family - I was hoping to find a possible link before James's time  - it would be great if you found something.

Dear Katherine, I noticed an absence of the name AVERY in your list but as they were  catholic glassblowers, is there an area that is associated with either glassblowing or RC worship or both?
Also MOLLOY - in the early 1800s the family lived in a RC area and were shoemakers.
I searched parish records for the birth of Alice Avery b c1854 but there are so very many of them as Dublin was bursting at the seams.

Thanks for the kind offer.

Is there a Bowden or Boden on the list.

Hi - I am trying to find info on my family O'Loghlen / O'Loughlin - my Gt Gt Grandfather James O'Loghlen / O'Loughlin (1835) was a "Cooper" in Dublin and so was his son Torlough / Terence O'Loghlen /O'Loughlin (1863)  - as "Coopering" was a occupation passed down the family - I was hoping to find a possible link before James's time  - it would be great if you found something.

the Guinness archive has some records re Coopers (my Nilands were Coopers at Guinness); UCD also has some old records re the Cooper Guild (Guild of St Patrick's) back to about 1840 including ticket books, subscription records etc...... Nothing online I'm afraid - it would be a case of going there.

To become a Cooper you had to be the son or grandson of a Cooper, hence family's tended to stay with the same trade. Similar process with other Trade Guilds.

Hi Kate

Can you clarify if your generous lookup offer is still valid?

Thanks and best wishes
