Title: 1841 Census - Shoreditch - KENDALL
Post by: kady on Thursday 20 October 05 22:25 BST (UK)
I am looking for a KENDALL family in the Shoreditch area - possibly Clerkenwell, in 1841.  The father was named William and he was a labourer.  His age is unknown if he is alive - I know he was dead by May 1850. The son in whom I am interested would be about 8 years old but that may be rounded up or down from what I understand.  His name was James William but he has been found as William James as well as James as well as William!
In a perfect world, there will be
William KENDALL, Head, Married, Labourer
Wife KENDALL
Children KENDALL Including:
Jms Wlm KENDALL, 8
Here's hoping ;D
Thanks in advance.

Hello Kady...........

have I done this one before?

1841
PRIMROSE STREET, ST BOTOLPH WITHOUT BISHOPSGATE, LONDON, MIDDLESEX
WILLIAM KENDALL  40  MACHINIST  NO (NOT BORN IN COUNTY)
SARAH         "           40                     NO
WILLIAM      "           10                     YES
SARAH          "           10                     YES
EDWARD      "            5                       YES
REBECCA     "            3                       YES
-------------------
*ages are far too neat    ie 1841 rule has been applied 10-15=10, 40-45=40 etc

Primrose Street is still there and is towards the upper end of Bishopsgate....beyond Liverpool St station and just a couple of hundred yards below Shoreditch   ............... and I know the Primrose Pub on the corner of Bishopsgate and Primrose Street opposite Spitafields fruit & Veg market ............ I should do, I was in it every day of the week......working day that was!   ;D

Hi Bryant,

Thanks for that!  Sadly it doesn't appear to be my lot.  I found them in 1851 after William Sr. was deceased.  Mrs. C Kendall, widow, (looked like that) from Romford, Essex was the head and my (James) William, aged 19,  along with brothers Andrew born 1822 and John born 1830.  Now that Ancestry has the 1841 census online, I can't find any of them.  Must be either transcribed incorrectly or on an illegible page.  Drat!

Again, thanks.
