Hi All
Could SKS look up 1861 census for me?
Desparately trying to find John Pain POWELL and his wife Sarah with 3 children:
John Henry Powell (b 1853)
William Powell (b 1854)
Mary Maria Monnington Powell (b1856)
All 3 children were born at Kingswinford though Mary says in 1881 When she was married) she was from Pensnett. Is this place in Worcester or Staffordshire?
I have John and WIlliam in 1881 census and my direct line Mary in 1881. Cannot find anybody earlier, not even the marriage of John Pain POWELL and Sarah.
Thanks
John Rowley

Hi all
Many thanks yonderpeasant and allibaker as the info is great, I think the 1861 George must be brother to John Powell or something as Mary Maria is listed in both families. My family is the 1871 John Powell with the 2 brothers listed but no Mary Maria. I have now found the birth cert ref and should get it this week.
Many thanks again
John Rowley

Hi again
Birth cert confirms John Payne Powell and Sarah Taylor as parents to Mary Maria Monington Powell, so the 1861 census is the right household.
Many thanks

Hello John
I think we are related! I've just come back from a weekend of research in Kingswinford and have discovered details of the family of my great grandmother, Sarah Powell, daughter of William and Harriet and sister of Emma born 1862 who I believe is the Emma in the 1871 Census on Water Street. ie John Pain and William Powell were brothers.
In searching through the parish records I found 4 children for John and Sarah plus their marriage at Holy Trinty church Kingswinford on March 23rd 1852.
I am really interested in the Mornington connection as my grandmother told me we were descendants of Lord Mornington. Do you have any info regarding John Pain Powells ancestors?
-
Hi Jansher
Great to see a connection as have waited a long time and not been getting very far back. I have no further info as to ancestors of John Pain Powell or even where he was born. I only have 3 children of his listed. I have a gedcom and word doc. I will PM you re the info.
Thanks
John Rowley

Hi John
Good to hear from you. I am attaching the relevant part of my family tree for you as a pdf - I am still trying to find John and William's parents and the Mornington connection.
I have it all documented in Family Tree Maker and my son has it on Genes Reunited.
How are you related to John Pain Powell? I have just written him down as John on my tree but in some of his childrens' baptism records he is recorded as John Pain Powell.
Jan Sherlock
Yes that's my real name! Can supply my own e mail address if you wish - having a bit of trouble with attachment.
-
Hi Jan
My relation to John Pain Powell is 2x great grandfather on my dads side (my dads fathers mothers father). Not found much else yet as been difficult enough with Kingswinford and Pensnett as it was Worcestershire surrounded by Staffordshire but again changed over the years!
Got your email.
Cheers
John Rowley
