Hi Dawn

Sorry to see you still at a dead end with this one. have a look at this link and the 2nd last posting it is from a Sue Shorrock living in Manchester and seems to know a bit of Moston .... Maybe this is the bit of luck you need.http://www.manchesteronline.co.uk/ewm/001ewm/021a_rm/index2.html

Hi Dawn

What a piece of luck  ;D

Came across this grave very much by chance, you can see how small it is against the headstone, I was looking at a war grave when I saw this and remembered you were looking for Shorrock and Nancarrow. I am more than sure they are who you are looking for

Lily Shorrock (34) & Mary Nancarrow (94)

The grave is located in Philips Park Cemetery (K N/C Section), Manchester

Ken

Hi dawn

WoW it does look spooky, just enlarged that area. Now it looks like a full head of some martian type person.   :o a long forehead, eyes, cheeks, stumpy nose, mouth, chin  :o

But I think we can safely say it is just a natural oddity on the headstone captured at that moment in time  ;D

Best wishes for a merry christmas to you and your family.

Ken

Hi Dawn,

Just been looking at info on Bernard Shorrock as I thought I'd have a go at starting our family tree. I see that you are already well into it now.  Bernard is my great grandfather, George is my Grandfather and Donald my father.  Do you have a copy of a newspaper cutting of Bernard from the Evening Chronicle with regards to his retirement as I have a copy and could send it to you.  Could you just keep me up-to-date with a quick overview on how you are related etc.

Thanks
Debbie

hi debbie
dawn here bernard was also my great grandfather muriel was my grandmother and patricia is my mum, i am sure donald phoned me one day and said he would get in touch again.muriel died giving birth to a second child when mum was 3 and was not told anything about any family that existed, i have found out quite a bit i am sure it was donald who sent me a copy of the retirement of bernard. Because muriel died so young we can` seem to find anything about her i know she was a telphonist before she married grandad in 1933 but thats it.myself and my husband have taken over a pub in meliden near rhyl so have been really busy for a while i will get back toyou in a bit i just have to go down and lock up

Hi Dawn,
Thanks for your reply.  I spoke to Don (my brother) yesterday while we were at my dad's(also Don)70th Birthday and he said he had contacted you,but there must have been some confusion as he thought you were going to get in touch. Unfortunately I don't know where Bernard was buried as I am very new to all of this. I did try tracing our roots about 10 years ago but it took too much time with having a young family. The only item I have is a copy of Bernards Birth certificate. Sorry can't be of more help. Dad said he has a photo of himself as a child with Great Grandad somewhere (presumably out of uniform) if I find it I will send you a copy. By the way my grandads name was Leonard not George. don't know where I got that idea from!  How long have you been tracing our family tree for?
Debbie

Hi Debbie

Ouch!

The connection was You and Dawn

You wont know anything about me because I have nothing to do with your tree, I live in an area of Manchester that the Shorrocks & Nancarrows lived.

Here on Rootschat help is on hand from 1000's of members all over the world. I myself do a lot of grave hunting, map research & anything else I can do to help a fellow Rootschatter, I try to find a physical connection (graves, roads, house's,area's,photos etc) to other peoples ancestors who lived in North & East Manchester plus some areas of Salford. This is what I have been doing for Dawn.

Ken

Hi Dawn

Have you got anywhere with Bernard? if not this may be him

I have found on the BMD index

Bernard Shorrock Q4 1957 Manchester 10e 486 aged 74 - that makes this Bernard born the same year as yours 1883.

Also a search of http://www.burialrecords.manchester.gov.uk you will find a Bernard Shorrock buried in 1957.

Unfortunately this web site charges for the grave details, so its up to you if you want to check.

Regards
Ken

ARRRrrrghhhhhhhhhh  :P

Just logged into the website (r well never mind, must have had 1 credit left)

It is him - he is buried along with

Lily Shorrock
Mary Ann Nancarrow

In Section H 833 Non Conformist

The others listed below might be buried in one of the other sections (CofE - RC) etc

Deceased Name Cemetery Section Grave
Harriet Flanagan  Philips Park H 833
Thomas William Flanagan  Philips Park H 833
Margaret Fanny Prestage  Philips Park H 833
Lily Shorrock  Philips Park H 833
Alfred Charles Flanagan  Philips Park H 833

Hi donshorrock

What a fantastic conclusion to this posting - shame his name was not included on the headstone.

Should anybody wish to visit the site here is a map and general location of grave
