Title: Melbourne
Post by: NEATWHEAT on Friday 14 October 05 13:58 BST (UK)
Hi

I am trying to trace my great aunts.  They were born in Llandudno, Caernarvon North Wales.  Their father was Ishmael Cartwright and their mother was Elizabeth.

The three of them emergrated to Melbourne in the 1920's

Mary Cartwright born about 1894
Esther Cartwright born about 1891
and Beatrice Cartwright born about 1900
They had another sisters Margaret born about 1887  but I am not sure if she emergrated

Mary and Esther went first and Beatrice' boyfriend went before her with a view to getting a job and then send for her but he met someone else unfortunately and never sent for her but her sisters persuaded her to go anyway.  One of their Children Joan and Tom gave birth to quads but they didnt survive, not sure if Tom was her son or Joan her daughter but I was told by my grandmother that the quads were  preserved and kept in the university for the students studies.

I do not have any other information this is what my Grandmother Sarah Ellen told me a long time ago, she was born in 1888 and moved to Cardiff in South Wales where she lived until she died in the 1950's. She had twin daughters Cora and Enid. Cora is my mother and the twins will be 90 this year so it would be a lovely present if I could trace their family ties in Australia

Many thanks

Hi
I have been doing some searching and found an envelope with an address for Miss M Cartwright who lived in Park Avenue, Sandringham, Melbourne
Dont know when this was but maybe someone can help me trace her.  It proves to me that either Margaret or Mary also emergrated.

Thanks again

Hi Sleat

Thank you so much for getting me the information on the Cartwright sisters.

I am now in touch with my long lost family, they have been looking for my side of the family for years.

Without knowing the sisters married names I could go no further but thanks to you I found it was Bingham and found Bingham from Melbourne on Genes Reunited.  I know it was a long shot but sent a message anyway, my long shot paid off, it was the correct family.

Thanks again

Dear Neatwheat.

I think I can add another side to your family. My grandmother was the daughter of Charles the youngest son of Elias.

We stayed in North Wales and I visited Hendre a great deal when I was young. My mother was born in Hendre and Margaret the second wife of Elias lived with Charles her son until she was over 77 years of age.

Dear Neatwheat thank you for your response any information that you have on the Cartwrights would be most welcome.

Did Elias the elder have two sons called Richard one born ion 1849 and one in 1866.

The 1851 census shows a son Richard aged 2 in 1861 he is 12.

My theory is that Margaret the second wife already had children when she married Elias.
