Thanks Mike, that's them. they were all born in Middx (Marylbone and St Pancras) so I guess outside the county was an enumeraters mistake. Thanks again.

your James Griggs was baptised Edmonten, 1806....I know because I nearly "barked" up your tree until I found mine with daughter Louisa Larkins nee Griggs in Lewisham in a census......then I knew he came from Walmerstow Essex.......any Essex Griggs in that there line of yours?
OR Lewisham, Kent and Egham Surrey for that matter.

Cheers Sunny

Hi Sunny,my James Griggs was baptised in Marylebone 1806. He did have a son called William who married a girl 1854 (Susan) born in Tottenham, and their son Joseph was Baptised in Edmonton 1857 which has Tottenham as a district. Susan died in 1873,William went walkabout, and the children went to the workhouse. I have only followed Josephs line as he was my G Grandfather.

Hi Ken,
Well I am darn glad that's not my tree.......Grin !!!!
Mind you mine have led me a merry dance. If you find them back to Essex
Woodford, Loughton, Walthamstow, holler.
I just checked another chappies tree that I have, because I am sure they tie in with mine.....2.47 miles apart.
BUT nothing on your Griggs sorry.
Have you don the PR's for your James to find his father?  Why I ask is there are a couple of guys, collecting Griggs. One has 19000 names or some such thing, Essex, Beds, Dorset etc and another that is I believe a one name study, mainly Kent though I think. Not sure on that one.
Cheers sunny

Hi Ken,
You live in Woodford? Well my Griggs were baptised Loughton (am doing the PR's for them now, just arrived at the LDS)
But on a few censuses they very between saying born Woodford & born Loughton.......2.47 miles apart according to Parishfinder.
So seeing as you live there a question.......
If mine were say born Woodford and baptised Loughton. The only reason I can think of is that they were baptised St John the Baptist. Does that sound logical, is there NOT a non conformist Church in Woodford itself. This would explain a few things. Any ideas seeing as you know the area.

So I will be doing the Woodford PR's eventually. Do you think yours have Essex connections?  I ask because some of mine headed off for London & some ended up Lewisham etc. Mainly the females,  to marry or after marriage it seems. Well so far anyway.
If you think so, I can report my findings on Griggs in Loughton & Woodford. Now that I have them by the tail, it's time to reel 'em in. Grin !!!!In otherwords, I caught up with them. Finally........one brick wall tumbling, albeit with a toothbrush and a prayer.
