Does anyone have access to Passenger Lists for Ships arriving in New York 7/8th May 1846.
My grt Aunt Catherine and her husband Edward Broughton, reportedly disembarked from an unknown ship,7th May 1846....(there is some leeway on the date, another source quotes the 8th May.
Edward Broughton was born 1814 at Liddington,Rutland
Catherine(Smith) 1817 at Wilbarston,Northants
they would have had 4 children born 1838/40/42/44
The family then proceeded to Ohio.
I am trying to find out if any other Broughton/Smith family members travelled with them.
Can anyone help with this one?

I found Edward arriving at the port of Castle Garden in New York, but no other Broughtons or Smiths coming with him, not even Catherine.
Ed. Broughton, laborer, age 31, male, arrived 8 May 1846, origin Great Britain, ship Rochester, port Liverpool, destination USA
This is the information was found on www.castlegarden.org (http://www.castlegarden.org). I could not turn up any other Broughtons, or any Smiths coming over at the same time.
The information on this website is still being added, so it's possible the rest of the family was not added yet.

Amy,
I am much indebted to you..thank you very much.
Dissappointing that the rest of the family are not shown.......but this is the best progress for a very long time.

Hello Ohio Susan...what a name..I never had girls writing to me like that 50 years ago...ooh!
Thanks for the reply........those names are full of possibilities but not the dates I was looking for.
However Edward Broughton(1814) ...his father was a tailor from Lyddington,Rutland. The names and dates do not match up with his siblings but I am hopefull that another look at the Broughtons of the time, might reveal perhaps they were cousins. What a pity the records do not go a step further ie.Lyddington,England........still that would make things too easy.
My Broughton cousin in Atlanta will no doubt email me back on this possibility.
Did you extract these last names from the Castlegarden site?

Irish Immigrants: New York Port Arrival Records, 1846-1851
Looked at ship "Rochester" "8 May 1846"
269 souls but only 1 "Ed. Broughton" nothing else similar
"7 May 1846" no Broughtons or anything similar.
