Title: merchant sailor
Post by: alivicwil2 on Thursday 06 October 05 14:28 BST (UK)
my great-grandfather was a Merchant Seaman. He was a Chief Engineer Officer aboard the SS.Temple Yard. He died in 1940, and is buried in a Commonwealth War Grave in Buenos Aires.
I am desperately seeking information about how he died.
There is no record of his ship being damaged.  I would like to view the Ships' Records Cards, but my understanding is I need to go to Kew to do so -- I live in Australia!
Can anoyone offer any advice as to how I can proceed.
Thanks!

Hi allvicwil2 and Welcome to Rootschat!!

There is a SS Temple Mead that was bombed 21st Jan 1941 - but I couldn't find Temple Yard in 1940 - you might want to go through these yourself ....

there is a WW2 forum that you can post a request too - might be worth a try!

In the meantime somebody here may be able to help you -  we have some pretty knowledgable people here!!
