To try and protect users from suspect emails, AOL (and a couple of other providers) block some links in emails, so the link in the email to "activate" your membership in RootsChat may not work.
If you go to RootsChat and click on the link "Acivation Email" (in the top-right), then on that form enter your email address, and your activation code you will have your membership activated.
Alternativaly you may be able to "copy and paste" the activation code to another browser.
If you struggle, then please reply to the welcome message and explain that you can't activate it, then we will activate your membership manually, but because of time differences it may take us a while to pick up your email.

Hello:
My parents attempted to register and it appears that something went wrong. They never received an activation e-mail. They did click the link on the site but nothing came through. They attempted to re-register with the same user-name and received and error message that the name was already used. Tried a new user-name with the same e-mail, similar error message. I checked their spam box to make sure they didn't just miss the activation message and there was nothing there. I'm not sure how to contact moderators directly to seek assistance with this. What is the best course of action? Thanks in advance!

Hi
Welcome to Rootschat ;D
For information, you can't report your own posts, but at the bottom right corner of each post is a 'report to moderator' button. Click on that and type a message.
I've sent a message to one of the 'technical' moderators about your post.
Can you reply with the user name that your parents tried to register.
Thanks

I see you got it going ;D

I too had trouble.

No - I cannot get into this website at all. There is no useful information on how to join, post or anything else - despite my having used the site once in the past. It must have got a lot more difficult.
So, from Square One, how do you make this website go???
Best wishes,

Tempest55,
I am sorry to read that you are struggling.
There is no useful information on how to join, post or anything else
You are still a member so no need to (re)join and have actually successfully posted here today.
Have you read the help pages?
https://www.rootschat.com/help/index.php (https://www.rootschat.com/help/index.php)
We hope that it covers all the basic questions that new or returning users might have.
Is there a specific family history problem that you would like help with - or any specific brick-wall?
Choose the most appropriate board on the forum and post any questions. We'll do our best to help :)

Had a bit of trouble but eventually it went through. Sometimes more an issue with internet provider than the site.
They seem to run this site pretty well on a good platform and considering its free its a pretty cool thing to do.
