Title: Where to Start
Post by: bramwellanne on Saturday 01 October 05 14:16 BST (UK)
We will be visiting Co.Down in November to do some research on the family name of Ambrose.
We have the dates of birth of 5 children born in Kircubbin between 1816+1825 to a William Ambrose and Jane Glass.
We have booked accomodation in Newtonards and plan to stay in the area for about 4 days.
Where do we start?? Do we start in Kircubbin looking at parish records?? or will these be listed in a Government type building somewhere else?? where are records more lokely to be kept??
Any help or guidience will be greatfully appreciated.

Hi Anne,

As far as I know a lot of the Church records are available in the Public Records Office on microfilm:

That might be simpler that trying to find the local holders of records. But also have a look at Ros Davies and Caora sites for your names.

Hi Bobed
Thanks for your reply. I am assuming that the Public Records Office will be in Belfast is that right.
I am allready subscribed to the COARA Site and have found them helpful in the past so I will post my inquiry on that site as well.
Once again many thanks

Bramwellanne

Good question, Christopher.  I'd like to know, too, since my ancestors come from Kircubbin.
