Title: JUTSUM
Post by: KrysEmery on Saturday 01 October 05 02:38 BST (UK)
HI!

I am currently researching the name Jutsum particularly the Jutsums in Devon but would love to hear from researchers of other Jutsum families.

It is a fairly unique name and I would love to be able to link up the families.

Thanks

Krys

Hello Krys,

I had posted a message on the East of London message board and I believe that Pauline at Roots Web administration linked me to you at Roots Chat. All very complicated I think.
My great grandmother was Frances Ann JUTSON. Her life began in 1863 in Deptford, Kent as Frances Ann JUTSUM, daughter of William JUTSUM and Margaret Elizabeth NEWLAND. The 1861 census shows this family living at 2 Broadway, Deptford. In 1871 they were in Brighton with William widowed. Frances was that same year to be found visiting, wrongly given as age four and written as Francis JUDSON and presumably with whom I think is her sister Julia also aged four. In 1881 Frances (now JUTSON) is in Brighton working at the Norfolk Arms Inn. There is no trace of her father anymore. He had originated from Bath, Somerset abt. 1816. His probable father is on the 1851 census, John aged 56 and born in Wells, Somerset. On the 1851 census William lived with his first wife Anne at 106 Royal Hill, Greenwich.
I had a peep at your family tree and there does not appear to be any links but they could be lurking there somewhere. Interesting, but just coincidence I think is that we also have a JAMEISON, on my mothers side again. If there is any connection here then it is a long, long way back!
At the very least, I hope that you find this interesting.

Best wishes,

Tony Savery

Dear Tony,

Thank you for sharing your information.  I have not yet come across Frances in my research but I "collect" Jutsum names hoping to be able to connected them at a later date.  I have come across a couple of families situated in Deptford.

As you can see, my research is available on line (most of it any how) and I am updating all the time.  I will let you know if there is any connection

Thanks again!

Hello,

I came to this page following Tony's posting on the East of London Message Board.  I am not researching the name JUTSUM as such, but you may be interested to know that my maiden name of JUDSON is pronounced JUTSON in Sheffield which is where my father comes from.

Obviously, If someone from that area then moves away to another place, like, Deptford, Bath or Brighton, then the enumerator or clergy in that new area are going to write down what they have heard, trying to decipher a "foreign" accent.

I hope this helps.

Janet
