Title: Census 1841/1851 EARP Norton Canes
Post by: Bucksgirl on Friday 30 September 05 16:31 BST (UK)
Could anyone help me find where the EARPs disappeared to?

On the IGI, children born to Joseph & Lydia (nee DAY) EARP in Norton Canes are:

Robert bp 1818
Sarah        1820
William      1823
Anne         1824
George     1827
Thomas     1830
Fanny(Frances) Maria 1832
John          1834
Edward     1838
Lydia         1840

Robert is in London in 1861 and then vanishes again.  Frances (my line) is also in London from 1859 onwards, but what happened to the rest of the brothers & sisters?

It would help to know if they were still in Staffs in 1841/1851
Thanks

Do you have more information on Joseph and Annie Willott? I am stuck on Joseph Willott and Ann Oakcraft. He was said to be a shepherd in the area of Oldbury for fifty years. Said to be buried at the Oldbury
Church. Their son, Joseph said to have been born 24 Aug 1824, Calf Heath, England. Son, Joseph, married Anna Marie Gething, born 14 Oct 1828, Oldbury, England. Joseph and Anna Marie emigrated to USA between 1867 and 1870. Thanks for any help.

Hi latitude47,
Welcome to Rootschat :)

1841 Census
Joseph WILLOTT, 55, Ag Lab
Anne, 50
Prue, 15
George, 20, ? Boot Maker?
JOSEPH, 16, Chisel Maker
Lydia EARP, 1
All born in County

1861 Census this Joseph (under Willatt) is born c 1784 Blythberry, Staffs and still a Ag Lab and Ann 1785 Cannock/Hednesford, Staffs.
With them are Grand/Daughters;
Esther GRIFFIN, 17, born Norton
Jane Griffin, 7, born Aston
These are the Children of JANE Willatt who Married Shadrach Griffin.
RG9/1983/50/2

1851 Census Joseph is working for William Massen, Farmer;
Joseph WILLOTT, 66, Servant, Mar, Shepherd/Labourer, born Blithbury, Staffs
HO107/2016/553/1

Now this Joseph/Ann-Anne had these Children Christened in Cannock, Staffordshire;
ELIZA 23 April 1815
GEORGE 16 Dec 1819
JANE 02 June 1822
JOSEPH 30 August 1825

Map of Calf  Heath area;
http://www.british-towns.net/en/level_4_display.asp?GetL3=15665

So the Christening of Joseph c  may be in Cannock

Now I have found these Records which seem to slightly disagree with your info

Anne HOLCROFT, Christened 18 Sept 1785, Cannock, Stafford, England
Parents THOMAS/JENNY
(Source IGI Extracted Record)

Marriage;
( Source IGI Extracted Record)
Joseph WILLOTT
Ann HOLCROFT
31 July 1808, St Michael, Lichfield, Stafford, England

Names are similar to Oakcroft.

1861 Census Joseph born c 1824, Norton, Staffs,  is Married to Maria born c 1829, OLDBURY, Worcestershire.
They are under WILLETTS
Children are;
Anna Selina, 13
Jane, 11
William, 8
Joseph, 5
RG9/2023/4/1

1851 they are under Willetts also.
HO107/2024/../1

Did you get Josephs Fathers name and Occp from his Marriage Cert to Anna Maria?
Maria GETHING, June 1847, W Bromwich, 18 766
Possible spouse on page is Joseph WILLETTS

Anna Selina is Christened under WILLETT, 13 August 1848, Oldbury, Worcestershire to JOSEPH/MARIA.

Could we be looking at different Families or the name changes frequently ???

Boy I just looked at a Tree for Joseph born c 1824 and it has his Parents as;
JOSEPH Willot 1775-1804
Ann OAKCRAFT 1845-

MMN Father died before Joseph was born and Mother born after Joseph was born ::)

According to the 1881 US Census on there (which I cant access) Maria was born c 1830, England  and there is a Maria GETHIN Christened 11 April 1830, Oldbury, Worcs to JOSEPH/ANNE.

Do you have Joseph/Anna Marias Death Certs?
A Childs Birth Cert ?
I think this info really needs to be confirmed and I would love to know what actual info you have.

Cheers,
Trish :)

Wow, Trish. You have just given me a priceless gift, the greatest breakthrough yet in my 50 years of assembling family information. Yes, virtually all of the names fit into the modern "Willott" family. I am weak on legal documents but I have enough in family records, newspaper clippings and such that I already have some of the married names for the girls. I am confused by the connection to Lydia Earp. Joseph and George are used repeatedly in both branches of the Joseph and George who came to America. The descendants of Joseph are connected to the Manitowoc and Two Rivers area of Wisconsin. George is my father's great-grandfather. He settled in Boone County, Illinois. The family resided in that area until the early 20th century when my grandfather pursued my grandmother to Seattle, Washington where they married. Our branch of the family has been here ever since.

Since so many generations were named Joseph and George, some of the earlier attempts by family members to assemble our heritage have gone offtrack. I have had to treat some of the connections as likely but not confirmed. Much of the information you have uncovered actually supports most of my unconfirmed information. The names, ages, spouse names all fit.

It will take me a little time to meld this new information. I am still employed for another few months and i get very little time to work on my research. I would like to keep in touch.

Gratefully,
Bob

Hi Bob,
I am so happy I could help and confirm some details for you.
A fascinating business this Family History!
When you are ready just come back to this thread and maybe we can get the Moderator to split this Topic of yours off from the original query.
You need 1 more post to activate the PM system and if you want you can then
contact me that way.

Maybe further back in the Tree the Earps may be related but it is just as possible that Lydia Earp was just being looked after by the Willotts at the time the Census was taken and they were just Neighbours/Friends.

Lydia EARP is part of my tree and her mother died shortly after her birth.  The family seemed to disintergrate around this time with the older children working or living with other families.  The WILLETTS were neighbours, too young to be Lydia's grandparents, but they may be related in another way.

Hi. My great grandfather was Samuel Earp born West Bromwich 1860. Died in Cannock, Staffs 1943.

I,ve done extensive research on the Earps on Ancestry. I,ve even traced my side of the Earps to Tibberton in Shropshire circa 1724.

You never know but there may be a link somewhere. I,ve got various letters and parish records if you are interested
