How about somwhere in the West Country since you've tried the north and the midlands?
eg Bristol, Bath, Exeter......etc
Adrian
This might be convenient in Liverpool
There will be a Family History Fair held at Liverpool Aintree Racecourse, Princess Royal Stand, Ormskirk Road, Aintree L9 5AS
SUNDAY NOV 6th 2005 10am-5pm (admission usually about £2)
Mary
;D ;D
Well Ticker
Here's a map of England, and I reckon the centre is about Leicestershire/Nottinghamshire - what does everyone else think ??
PS Mary - what time should I be there?
Chester would do Lancashire/Merseyside as well as Cheshire! It would have my vote.
Mary
I reckon it would be a lonly old time having a local meet in Towoomba, mind you I'm not sure how we would fare over here in Perth (sorry I don't really live in the Gibson)Didn't really think you did, Denn!
Denn
Where is Manchester ????????
Where is Manchester ????????
All round to your's then Trystan.....
We can all see the hub of this great site. ;D ;D
;D ;D
Does anyone know how much longer voting will go on for ??
Also what dates do people have in mind ??
;D ;D
I'll come to Bury, I love black pudding.
At least no one can accuse me of not knowing which buttons to press! :) Paul
Mobo
I'm glad you said "nearly all Librans..."! I know one who couldn't press a button if his life depended on it, particularly if it was attached to anything mechanical!
Jill
Maybe it is my delicate jelly brain but I can't work out what is winning - Chester, Bury or Manchester?
So first question.
Before or after Christmas?
Scarborough is just in the lead Pam! ;D
Trystan
You've just made my choice for me! Get the kettle on Ticker!
Jill
I don't really mind but after Christmas would probably be better. I think a lot depends on what we plan to do with the day, bearing in mind that the weather can be pretty awful anywhere in January and February and a lot of 'tourist attractions' are closed.
Perhaps somebody in the Manchester area could make a few suggestions? Jill
Sorry to appear dense, but how do I vote?
Thanks, Mags
Thanks anyway.
Hope it goes well.
Mags
Mobo ... how could you miss
The People's History Museum? ... the national centre for the collection, conservation, interpretation and study of material relating to the history of working people in Britain. The museum galleries are housed in the Pump House: a former Edwardian hydraulic pumping station, Bridge Street, Manchester. Paul
It looks to me as if we are going to need at least a week to 'do' Manchester!!
Jill
After Christmas for me ;D The Urbis Centre sounds really interesting. Susan :D

Hi Keziah - perhaps you could come with Graceland - I think he lives in your 'neck o'th the woods' doesn't he ??
;D ;D
Don't do Valentines week, Feb 14th for non- romantic's ::)
Mothers Day week, around end March in England.
Wedding season, March-Oct.
Erm, not much left. The joy's of being a Florist. ;D
;D ;D
Just a suggestion- but a good meeting place would be the 'Cathedral Triangle'
;D ;D
Just a suggestion- but a good meeting place would be the 'Cathedral Triangle'
So called because of the mysterious disappearance of hundreds of UK cathedrals... ;D
Paul
Does this mean that the Bermuda Triangle was so named because of the disappearance of hundeds of pairs of Bermuda Shorts? ;) ;D
Al
Another birthday Veron!!!!
We must make sure that we include "Birthday Drinks" in the Itinery ;D
Jan
Now that sounds like an excellent idea..... Any idea what the local brew is? (Unless it's Boddy's of course......) ;D
Veron
This is the north of England, you can get almost ANY drink you want!!!
Hi there,
We have the date,we have the location............what about the time? ;)

I was hoping to meet some of you lot, but February half term isn't possible
Yep, same here.
QuoteI was hoping to meet some of you lot, but February half term isn't possibleQuoteYep, same here.
The Meet is going to be the 18th.....the end of the half term!!!!
Just so long as Man U or Man City aren't at home, (from the travelling by train point of view) any dates fine by me ;D
Susan :)
could somebody explain this to me as I am new to Rootschat! what happend in 'meets 1 & 2'?
No definite date yet Ticker :'(
I know that the original choice of 18th Feb was not suitable for some of the Mums because it coincided with half term.
I still think that February or early March would be a good time (and not too long to wait ;D). For me, any weekend is fine so I can fit in with any agreed date.
Would like to hear other Rootschatters thoughts!!!
Jan
...if we're planning to have a few bevvies...
Easy for me to get to but if we're planning to have a few bevvies like they did on the last meet, then I'd prefer to stay somewhere local for the night, maybe somebody can make some suggestions as I expect not everybody will want to go home. :DI do all my bookings thru laterooms.com and have only once been disappointed (in Glasgow, not Manchester). UMIST has a conference centre about 4 minutes walk from the station and you can book rooms independently. Comfortable and relatively cheap
nothing fancy and reasonable cost).
Can I make a bid for lunch at Nando's? (Its a Portugese Peri Peri Chicken place, nothing fancy and reasonable cost).
cheers
Paul :)
Hi Jane
It's pretty chicken-dominated, but they have some other options that I've never tried - vegetarian and beef.
It's quite relaxed and can cater well for large groups.
cheers
Paul
Sounds a great menu Paul - I'm slightly worried about the domineering chickens though! ;D
Ticker
I'm uncertain at the moment. Am at Dolls House Exhibition weekend before don't know whether allowed two weekends off ::)
Susan :)
Looks like I might get to come after all. ;D
Mr Lesanne has a course in Wigan, just happened today. :o
Flights are £62 return. Gatwick- Manchester.
:D We can drive from Wigan to Manchester on Saturday morning.
Where are you meeting up?
:D Do we know anything yet, about places, or where to meet? ;D
definitely :D
Maybe next time eh?
How will we recognise each other??
Copy of the Times perhaps? 8)
Anyone want to borrow my RootsChat shirt? I was hoping to wear it myself but unfortunately won't be able to make this meet.
Hope you all have a great time - I shall be thinking about you!
Jill
Shame on you Chris! Fancy asking a woman what size she is! I'm large, but not quite that large!
You will have to speak nicely to Sarah, see if she can still get them!
Have a great day - I'll raise my glass to you all so I don't feel too left out.
Jill
Where are you looking Jakky - none of those sounds like me ;) ;)
Keith
I'm really looking forward to it - I've dropped out of going to a family party the night before so I don't turn up with a hangover from hell.
Here's hoping the rain keeps off but it will be fun anyway 8)
Cal
I'm really looking forward to meeting you all and going on the Big Wheel!
Have I missed the place at Victoria Station that we're meeting?
cheers
Paul :)
Jill,
Go on, I'm sure you can make it if you get on a train and change about four times!! It was great to see you for the last meets - how on earth are we going to manage without you? I think in York we'd have been lost half a dozen times if it was't for your lovely yellow coat that you wore!
Trystan

Paul :)
Don't forget to post some pic's and an account of who did what, for those who can't make it.Probably best I have to leave before the Evening drinks then!!! ;D ;D ;D
Denn
Just a quick post to say thanks for organising an interesting and informative day....not to mention the putting of faces to names.
Jed
The food at the Cathedral visitor centre was great. I opted for the cumberland sausage with mustard sause, with veg

No, Mary - that's a baguette!
;D ;D
All about someone being buried without their head. Trust me to miss a miss juicy bit.
Cheers
Fiona
Fiona,
The bit I remember too was that both the lad's two parents were both dead and that he was looked after by his grandfather. A real tragedy. :-[
Trystan
