Hello

Could somone look up a family please
benjamin Newton   Head   born approx 1830 St Bees Cumberland
Hannah M Newton  Wife       "       "      1835  Robinhoods Bay

In 1861 they were living in Marske District 1 hopefully they were still there in the 1851

Alos could somone check the inlaws please a Mother in Law who was living with them in 1861 a Mary Ann Allen from Whitby but the Father in law was down as Christopher William from Malton

I'm afraid the people named above do not appear in the 1851 Census Index for Marske (Marske-by-the-Sea that is) nor do they appear in the 1851 indexes for Redcar, Loftus, Brotton or Easington.

Did you mean Marske-in-Cleveland, or the other one near Richmond?

Just had another look at 1861

Marske was in Guisborough if that helps?? :-\

In that case, I think the above 1851 Census index covers that area and unfortunately the people mentioned aren't in it.

New Marske didn't really amount to any size whatsoever in 1851, in fact on an old map from 1857 it isn't even marked. The link below will take you to a map for 1857, somewhere near Redcar, follow the railway line heading south and east and you will eventually come to Marske-in-Cleveland. todays New Marske is sited south of the railway line, between Marske and Upleatham, which lies to the south of Marske.

There is a possibility that they came under the 1851 Census index for Kirkleatham and Upleatham, which unfortunately I don't hold a copy of.
