Post by: caferacer on Tuesday 27 September 05 22:16 BST (UK)
ive just been to the chester records office to look at the parish records from the 18th century and got a few names to add to my tree and i was just wondering if anyone could look up any Bowler s who were resident in marple, cheshire in 1841.
in particular i'm interested in jane who would be about 70, mary 45, martha 44, james 43 and william 39
thank you

hi peter - while ive got your attention ... following my visit to the records office, barring one missing link, i have a family line that now goes back to the 1680's.  my question is, is this the end of the road for me? or are there any other records other than the parish ones that go back further
thanks
charley

Hi Charley

Yes it could very well be the end of the road, unless the family were land owners, then you could check through the early deeds etc, try going to this link which will do a search of the Cheshire archive, just type in the name Barlow in the top box and click on search.

http://archive.cheshire.gov.uk/DServeBC/cidletcl.exe?dsqServer=.&dsqCmd=Search.tcl&dsqApp=Archive&dsqDb=Catalog&Application=Archive&Command=Search.tcl

Or you could try the wills database search

http://www.cheshire.gov.uk/recordoffice/wills/Search.htm

This link shows the various churches in Marple and where the records are and which dates are covered, it is also possible that your family came from over the border in Derbyshire ?

I will get back to you if I think of anything else
