Hi,
Have you checked the 1911 census for Merrion Row? Or the Dublin directories?

Good Morning Suse,
Was Ernest Mills your maternal or paternal grandfather? There was a master at St Columba's College, Rathfarnham, Co. Dublin when I was there 1952-7 whose surname was Mills.
Best Wishes, Christopher.

Ernest Mills was on my grandmother's side and I know that he died c.1915. His father was Joseph Mills who had a catering busines and lived in Merrion Row but it seems difficult to find out more!

Suse, Are you sure your Ernest was a brother of Joseph Mills of Merrion Row? Joseph Mills was the caterer there, Mills of Merrion Row - but I never heard he had a brother.

An Ernest W. Mills of Rose Villa, Terenure married Gladys McMurtry and is listed as florist in 1911 census- he died c1915 and she married 2nd (Oct.1916) to James Anderson Arnott. Is this the same Ernest Mills?
-
Yes, Ernest Mills married Sarah McMurtry so it is the same - Joseph Mills the caterer was his father(my great grandfather) and I believe he had two sons: Joseph and Ernest. Any other info or pointed in the right direction for records/family contacts would be much appreciated,,,I believe that Joseph Mills father was a George Mills of Santry but have not been able to get back any further than that,,,

Thought it was the same Ernest Mills. It's the McMurtry connection I've traced so I'm afraid I can't really help sort out the Mills family.
-
As you probably know, there is a database with information about the various mcMurtrys from Ulster
-
Think I've seen the one you mean. Don't have my notes to hand but some details there might be incorrect.

My Great Great Grandmother was Malvina Mills from Booterstown. She married William Wilson in 1860's.... Her father was down as Daniel Mills King.
Are these any relations to your Mills Family?

Suse,
Saw your inquiry for the first time today
Mills the caterers (well known in Dublin) were there in No.8 Merrion Row from C. 1870 . Thoms 1958 shows that they occupied Nos. 8 & 9 but the next Thoms I have is for 1962 and they have gone.
My source on The Irish Times from 1859-1901 has 5 references to them. Ask and you shall receive.
Regards
Quaxer.
