:) I am hoping that someone can do a lookup in 1841 for
Sarah Ann Tinkler born St Ives abt 1828.
Until recently I thought she was Ann Tinkler [the name used on other census data] but on her daughters baptism record she is Sarah Ann.
cheers

Hi Janet
The only Tinkler I could see in St Ives in 1841 was
Sakings Lane, St Ives
Rebecca Tinkler 17 Female servant not born in Hunts
in household of George Cross shoemaker

I have a Sarah Anne Tinkler, born at Hemingford Grey near St Ives, Huntingdon on April 11, 1823, the daughter of a labourer John Tinkler and his wife Virtue Tinkler (nee Tame). Could this be the one you are looking for?
I think, but have not proved, that she married a James Crocker (I don't know where or when). In the 1861 census, she was living with her mother, Virtue Tinkler, and her 1-year old daughter, Louisa Crocker, at Grays Inn Terrace, Holborn, London.
John Tinkler and Virtue Tame are my great great great grand parents. If we are related, I have some more information.

Hi Steve
Thank you for taking the time to look for this for me but unfortunately it is not the same person. I recently received information that she was born/baptised in 1827 daughter of William and Sarah Tinkler.
I have a friend with access to ancestry.com who is going to undertake to find her.
Once again thanks - pity there appears to be no connection at the moment as Hunts is not an easy place to reseach from OZ.
cheers

John and Virtue are also my GGG Gramps. So I guess we are related.
I'm just starting this hobby, but good old Ancestry has got me a long way quickly, whilst piggy backing onto the work my parents have already done.
Nice to sort of meet you.

Hi Dan :)
Having done a lot more research since I replied to Steve back in 2007 I now know that John Tinkler who married Virtue Tame was the brother of my 3x gr grandfather William Tinkler which makes John my 3xgrand uncle.
So I guess that makes us relatives!
Doing the research on the Tinklers has not been easy as I live in OZ and Huntingdonshire records are not the easiest to find.
Nice to meet you Dan!
Cheers
Janet :)

Great stuff. Nice to get a reply so quickly.
And great to hear from a DISTANT relative! How's the Oz summer?
My folks have been working on this for years and i'm playing catchup. But my Mum, whos from the Tinkler side has done lots of work. John and William's father (Charles b. 1763 in St Ives) and mother (Sarah Hobson b. 1775 d. 1844 in St Ives). Charles's father was Griffin Tinkler b abt 1720 d abt 1795 in Hunts and mother Elizabeth Smith. Thats as far as i have at the moment.
The ironic part of this is that i was living in about 1 mile away from Hemmingford Grey about 10 years ago when I lived in the Officers' Mess at RAF Wyton. I used to go running and cycling around the village as it was such a lovely place, all thatched, I had no idea it was my roots. I have a quite a few pictures of the area if you are interested.
Take care, All the best
Dan
