Hi fellow RootsChatters,
My father in law is Derek Delaroute. He was born in Hackney Mothers Hospital on 10th Nov 1922. His mothers name was given as Marcel Delaroute, Father unknown.
Derek thinks that his mother was born / lived in the Channel Islands. He was raised in foster care and never new his parents.
Can anyone help to trace his ancestors
Thanks

Do you have her maiden name? I have looked at one or two sources and haven't found any Delaroute's although Delar* and De La R* are quite common Channel Island names. Also, Marcel is almost exclusively male. Could it be Marcella ? An approximate DOB would be useful too.

Could it be "Delarue" instead of Delaroute? Quite a few of those in the Channel Islands....

Hi,
Thanks for the replies. Unfortunately Derek has never met his mother as he was raised in foster care since birth. The only information about hi mother is her name on the birth cert. I will check up on this and let you know the exact spelling of her Christian name. Her marital status is not known, and due to the taboos of that period regarding "unexpected" pregnancies there is also a question mark over her surname.
Is it possible to find information from the Hospital Records somehow?
Did ferry companies keep records of passenger mandates between the mainland and the Channel Islands?
Sorry I cannot supply any further information and only ask more questions.
Watch this space for exact details from Derek's Birth Cert.
Thanks
KoKo

My father was born in Mother's Hospital Hackney in 1925. Since this was a Salvation Army Hospital for unmarried mothers, if you enquire at the S.A. Headquarters in London, like me, you may be lucky enough to find out more.
